The South East

Taken outside City of Vulcan

….Southeast of Calgary is a nice ride when I’m in the mood for riding the foothills. I don’t really enjoy riding the SE if I’m near Lethbridge because it gets really windy, and for those of you who are not familiar with Lethbridge it is known as Canada’s Windy City. Other than that, the roads are the nicely paved types, with lots of hills, valley’s and wide open areas. You don’t mind as many towns as the NE but places like Nanton, Vulcan, Strathmore and Lethbridge are great stops.

The City of Vulcan has to be the most interesting place I’ve ever stopped at. They have gone crazy with their city name and embraced Star Trek like no other city has! They have a very large scale star ship as the entrance to the city, numerous paintings and even their tourism building is all Star Trek, complete with everything from a scale holodeck, standup people to tons of souvenirs!

When I took my trip out to Vulcan I didn’t know there were 3 places named Vulcan along the way and they were not on my map! So I first came across the County of Vulcan (and thought that was the Vulcan on my map), then the Town of Vulcan (and thought that was the Vulcan on my map!), and then happened to be going home when I passed by the City of Vulcan, did a U-turn and came back to see it! haha.

Here are some photos of my wanderings in the Southeast, I hope you enjoy them.
