I have a 1928 Durandal that I am trying to sell... anyone heard anything about them? Would be great to find out if there is any interest in the market for them. Thanks!

Definitely an obscure make. Durandal was a French motorcycle company that was only in business for about 6 or 7 years, starting in the mid 20s. They didn't do much business in the states and I've only seen one in my lifetime. Single cylinder, side valve affair, mounted on a sturdy bicylcle frame.

See if Jay Leno is interested. He loves obscure stuff like that.

Dear flynrider: thank you for responding to my thread. You are actually the first person who said he ever saw one, believe it or not. What do you mean by "obscure"? Bad make, inferior? And do I understand correctly that I should contact Jay Leno? H-m-m... that could be a good idea. Any idea on how to find him?

By "obscure" I mean that there were not many produced (and even fewer made their way to the States), therefore not many folks have seen or even heard of one. The only one I saw was in New Mexico back in the 70s. It belonged to an antique motorcycle collector with a barn full of motorcycles that I'd only read about in books (I sold him a 1948 Whizzer).

The Jay Leno comment was kind of tounge-in-cheek. Jay has a very large collection of antique cars and motorcycles that he's restored. He seems to go for the rare and obscure makes. I don't know his home phone, but I'm pretty sure he still works at NBC most days. Good luck!
