Hi - I just went through the MSF course and am buying a bike tomorrow (92 Suzuki GS500). 8)
Was looking for other riders in SF and specifically if anyone knows places where I can "practice" riding. So far my experience is 2 days in a parking lot and 30 minutes in an office park on a Sunday... not exactly ready to hit the bridges, highways, well, anything really. :? And in SF we've got the traffic, the hills, the small streets, etc, etc, so I really need to find somewhere to safely get my riding legs.
Thanks!

Just to follow up this thread, I found a local board for anyone in the SF Bay Area:
www.bayarearidersforum.com
Not to take anyone away from this site since its very cool to have an international riding community run by some crazy Canucks!
But for local rides and get togethers, BARF is pretty good. :) |

Golden Gate Park has some nice road ways as well as the back way over Twin Peaks and Diamond Heights . Just a suggestion . And out Balboa to Lands End and over to the Zoo and back on an early weekend morning should be relatively traffic free also.
Kind regards, Wizzard |

Thanks Wiz. The dog and I go to GG park every Sunday but I haven't been there on the MC yet. :)
I live by Twin Peaks/Diamond Heights and am still working on my steep hill starts. Went on a nice ride last weekend through the Presidio (nice easy twisties) and then down Skyline to Sharp Park in San Bruno, some more advanced twisties down there. But I found out that a rider went down & died there two days after we rode it. Rough stuff. We actually stopped because I felt a little uncomfortable with some of the downhill sweepers - there's wind gusts that just show up and its hard to constantly adjust your line (at least as a newbie it is). |
