Any of you vets in a moto gang? Especially one of those sportbike gangs, not the hog gangs like the Hells Angels and stuff. What goes on in those gangs? You just ride around or do you hijack stuff at night ala Fast and the Furious only on bikes?

For the more average joe what about motorcycle clubs? I'd imagine that it could get a lil lonely riding around all the time by yourself and you'd need to be surrounded by other bike heads. So what happens in these moto clubs?

Different clubs do different things...

my BMW club does monthy 'tech days' where someone offers up use of their garage/driveway and anyone who needs to do some work (oil change, install lights, valve adjustment, etc) lets the host know they'll be there and shows up. Always a great assortment of minds with varying degrees of knowledge and experience for help - extra hands - or instruction - how to do an valve adjustment. It is proper to bring your own tools, and extra rags for general use. But if you need a particular tool and let folks know, it will be there for your use.

We also do monthly 'RTE's' or Ride to Eat. Someone arranged the location and date and everyone shows up - on motorcycle or in car. Mostly about socializing and gettting to know each other... lots of later rides are set up at these.

We've had emergency preparedness classes and we've got one of the longest running regional rallies in the us. The Square Route Rally, in early June. www.bmwbmw.org

We don't do monthly club rides per se - there are 500 members in the club, it could get really ungainly. But rides do happen regularly - set up on the spur of the moment, or planned in advance.

never can tell though 8)

Here in Naples, there's a Sportbike Club and a (General bike, mostly Harley) Club.

They both do the same kinds of rides except the Harley dudes can actually see the scenery

You're kidding, right? If not, how long have you been riding? Having true friends is always good. Having true friends who ride is even better. Riding is always good, friends along or alone. If it isn't, do something else for couple of days...gives you a reality check.

Haven't even ridden yet. But I'm getting there. I get lonely in my car while driving so I just made the connection to riding. I guess that hit a nerve. I'll take it back. Riding is always exciting!

Nope, didn't hit a nerve. Internet sarcasm is hard to read, sorry. You'll feel more connected with your surroundings on the bike (not like a car much) and it can really take you away from stress, etc. Give that a shot for awhile, and you'll make a bunch of riding friends as you gain experience.

AAAH Grasshopper RON speaks from knowledge of being one with the machine and the enviroment coming from many hours of contemplation and meditation while astride the mechanical horses.

Biking is different to riding in a cage, it's something you can do on your own or with friends or even with strangers you have never met before. There is a synergy and symbiotism that occurs on a bike that only happens with the most unusual or expensive cars.

Sportbikers shouldn't really be classified as "gangs", ala the Mongols, Gypsy Jokers, and the like. Those gangs are basically criminals, whereas sportbikers are mainly into speed and performance, with some of them a bit on the egotistical side, exposing themselves by wearing tank-tops, shorts and flip-flops occasionaly. Maybe they should be called "packs", or "gaggles", or "flocks", but certaonly not gangs.

You don't have to be in a gang to do that
