very small bike, very long trip
My friend Shona warmed to the idea of riding this year, and after a few false starts, I found her a 1979 CM 185t, cute as a kitten, and about as powerful, and she got her skills test passed. We planned Las Vegas as a final destination (from Vancouver, BC), travelling by day. However, the day before ...

Excellent info
Excellent info! Thank You! Since last time I posted (I think I gave an update in another thread) I received new needles and seats from David Silver Spares in the UK, who have loads- pair was 30 GBP to the door, as there wasn't one in the US or Canada, and the bike now gets 65-70 MPG Imperial. Which ...

most likely
Fire guzzi- yes, I probably am. But I'm also a guy who came here looking for some people who would give me some better feedback than "buy a new bike"- so I took great pains to give a very clear description of the problem, symptoms and work history, hoping someone would put the clues togeth...

greetings
Greetings Gavin.
Welcome to the forum.
If you read the post immediately before yours, you will see that the cause was both found, fixed, and a solution offered to others.
Good observation that it was running rich. You must have picked it up in the many previous posts I made in this thread.

Check the manual. You do have a Haynes or Clymer manual right? Doing this without will simply result in a busted engine. It's easier with the case off the first time to understand what happens in there, but do it at the same time as an oil change, cause it's gonna come out the side cover. All I can ...

79 CM 185T Barking Mad TRIP
So my friend Shona asks about getting a bike and licence, signed her up for the course, passed the knowledge and looked for a learner bike prior to doing the road course. Rebels are $6100 CDN on the road. So I go and find her a cute as a button 79 CM185T, with original tires. Purchase price, plus ch...

pattern
Go buy 2 West German day packs from a surplus shop. They are about 7" thick, by 14 x 14 or so. They have a flap top that you lace down. I just tie the shoulder straps together and use as throw over saddle bags, and they have never been stolen. And, because they have a flap top, you can stuff mo...

That would be about 75mpg Imperial- pretty damn good! The bikes aen't far off- the 400 is 399cc, and yours is 436- or near there. Nearly insignificant. Thanks for the reply. I finally got new needles and seats from David Silver Spares in the UK- $70- but gas consumption went from 12km/liter to 23. P...

how is it?
Dean, What's it like in use? Has it, can it ever be stuck in the "on" position? Are you using a double cable pull to open, pull to close throttle system? I ask as I always ditch the second cable, and just rely on the spring to shut off the throttel. How was it to mount? our bikes are of si...

need a throttle lock/cruise control
I need a throttle lock/cruise control. I had one years ago, but that bike is long gone. Can't remember the maker. It's for a CB400T being forced into long distance highway use. Suggestions? Makers? Opinions?
