How many places are you going to post this? 90% of the people on this forum read all the sections, so multiple posts just makes it tough to track all the replies.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

if you dont even know where to find a gixxer, you have no buisness riding one.

cycletrader.com or craigslist.com are two of the common places to look, but i sugest you read through the stickys in the beginner biker forum as well as the california bike night page for beginners (the URL is escaping me at the moment but there are plenty of links to it in the beginner forum)

good luck and ride safe

If I had $4000 to spend on a bike and if thats my only bike, I would look at the fun factor, reliable transportation, easy to maintain, good gas milage I would look at the dual sport bikes like the Suzuki DRZ400S, or the DR650, or the Honda 650XL, or the Kawasaki 650, thats my personal opnion, ur going to kill yourself on a crotch rocket

Good luck in your search. MotoF150 and Ryan offer some harsh but good advice. I'm sure you can find something in your budget if you buy used. Always a good idea in my mind. I would look at something like a used Ninga 250 if you have never rode a motorcycle before.
