From a pure technical perspective I think a 90 degree v-twin is the best balanced and usually doesn't require things like balance shafts etc. You're right about the V-Strom, I had a 650 and it had little vibration but I now own a Ducati which is a 90 degree motor and it jumps, lurches, snorts, and bucks all over the place at anything below about 4000rpm.mgdavis wrote:A 90 degree v-twin ain't bad. Maybe you should look into a V-Strom or SV.

although an HD guy, I think BMW and Moto Guzzi's got it right by exposing both cylinders equally to the air.
The vibration on my 83 and 98 glide are non annoying but rather good indicators of how the bike is running. Love that bottom end torque. I can almost visualize the the intake, exhaust, rocker arms valves and such going through there motion. Its calming like a mommas heart beat.

A lot of that snorting and bucking is due to the lean mapping from the factory to pass emissions. I have an 05 Supersport 1000DS, which is the same motor as your bike, except it doesn't meet the newest emission standards, and it only jumps a little between 1500-2500 rpm. Above 2500 rpms, it is smooth.feliz wrote:mgdavis wrote:I had a 650 and it had little vibration but I now own a Ducati which is a 90 degree motor and it jumps, lurches, snorts, and bucks all over the place at anything below about 4000rpm.

Best V-Twin for Power & least Vibration
V-Twins with the least vibration in my opinion are Honda Shadow VT1100s & the VTX 1800 with the offset crank pin.
