I have a lot of sympathy for the people who wll be out of work because of the stupidity of General Motors. When it comes to GM however, I believe that they have proven that if you make crappy cars for long enough, you will eventually go bankrupt. In the early 90's I learned my lesson when I was enticed in to the fold when I believed them when they said that their quality had much improved. The resulting front-wheel drive piece of junk was the worst car I have ever owned.

The latest financial trouble that GM is in does not really look as though it was quality releated and more financial mismanagement on the outside. However, to get people to continue leasing cars known to have poor quality, GM had to lower the lease payments by making optimistic residual values that took an even larger beating by the financial meltdown. I cannot feel sorry for this company, but it sucks for a the people left in the wake of the failure. In my opinion it was only a matter of time anyway.

Hm.

It occurs to me that GM and Chrysler basically bankrupted themselves, and the only reason those tens of thousands of employees who do still have a job have a place to work is thanks to the government bailouts.

The singer complains about banks getting bailed out, but the automakers got just as big a break.

Angry at the government? Be angry at GM and the UAW for running your employer into the ground. Thank the government for allowing them to continue business in the mean time.
