Gone For a Few!
I am heading out first thing in the morning on my first post-scouting, scout adventure! I am an Eagle Scout, and recently upon realizing I do squat for community service these days, I followed up on my old plan of volunteering with my old Troop. I am heading off on my first trip with them this weekend, it is a simple 3 miles in, 3 miles across the beach, and 3 miles out. Though if the government shuts down it looks like we could be forced out early and do six miles the second day (curiously enough when I did this trip as a scout, we did the same, due to rain!).
Looking forward to it, but it will be interesting. My pack is heavy as crap, but I cannot afford fancy things like nylon pants and water filters. So poly sweatpants from target and a gallon of water it is for me .
Hoping to "barefoot" the last three miles out in my toe-shoes. See you guys when I get back!

Have fun. No one needs fancy things to be real man anyway (How about iodine to purify the water... yes it's nasty tasting).
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

Re: Gone For a Few!
Just got back tonight, had a blast. Forgot how young some of these kids are when starting. One eleven year old look at me and asked why I had my eyebrow pierced, when I tried to explain me and my roommate both did it in college he said, "I think if I went to college and got my eyebrow pierced, I'd have the sense not to wear it."

Here are the really good photos that were photoshop worthy (got touched up) from my backpacking trip with the Boy Scouts. Will maybe try and post all of them at some point, but here's the good ones!

Great shots! Wow, that is some serious tide there or the water is really, really down.

Re: Gone For a Few!
Yea, the hike across the beach has to be done at low tide, otherwise you are taking these ridiculous vertical climbs to get past many points. Probably would be fun with a day hike, but impossible with our packs! So most of these photos are at low tide.totalmotorcycle wrote:Great shots! Thanks! Some more nature enthusiasts than I said it was a seal skull, I am thinking that is right but do not really know for sure!Wrider wrote:That's pretty cool, especially the bear skull!

Either way it's pretty awesome haha. I'm a landlubber so it looks like a bear to me, but I've never seen a seal skull so... haha
