Yup, and we are soooo screwed. I know a lot of Conservatives who are dancing in the streets right now, but this one is not. Canadians are traditionally fiscally conservative and socially liberal...Harpo is 180 degrees away from this, fiscally liberal and socially conservative, strike that, socially ultra-right wing conservative. It does not bode well for us at all. During the campaign, the Harpobots droned on and on about tax and spend lefties..but kept mum about their own man's habit of spending and borrowing...and as anyone with a mortgage, credit card or bike loan will tell, you when you pay back a loan, you gotta pay interest. Harpo has already run up some pretty big bills on the nations credit card, after blowing thru a C$16 Billion surplus inherited from the Liberals, and that was when he was kept somewhat in check with a minority. Now he has his long sought after majority, there will be no stopping the sod. He will be like a drunken sailor on shore leave with someone else's credit card to rack up. And those someone who will have to pay his tab will be you and I, coz he sure as hell ain't gonna let his buddies in the Corporate (read Mega Corporate, small mom and pop corporation need not apply) sector foot the tab, indeed they will be reaping the benefits of his spending and borrowing.sunshine229 wrote:OMG - out of the blue Harper snags it! Mike & I are so shocked, we did not expect that outcome. With the very little news we were getting over here (self-researched, not presented in the local media) it sounded like Harper was only just barely going to get a minority again.
Personally, I am sickened. It took Canada 11 years, but we finally have given our own George W. Bush his majority. I think maybe it is time I seriously look at repatriating myself back to the UK until Canada and Canadians come to their senses again. But it will take at least five years to correct this huge mistake, and most likely our kids and grandkids will be paying for for years to come.
