Danger is everywhere....we just have to learn to be aware and take precautions.
Exactly! And yet, no one ever says "Crossing the street/walking on stairs is so dangerous, getting hit while crossing is inevitable, we should all stop crossing the street yadda yadda . . ."

People are so ready to have a know it all opinion on activities that they don't participate in.

Hears what I basically tell people who insist on telling me second-hand stories of motorcycle related deaths and injury's:

"You know what? The moment you pop out of your mothers womb and into this cold cruel world, is the moment you started dying, you just don't know when and where it will happen. It could be long process taking any wheres up to 100 years and you die peacefully in your sleep. It could happen tomorrow when you fall under a bus, slip on a banana peel, have a massive heart attack. At least if I go I will go doing something I love and enjoy and not suffering slowly as cancer eats away at me. (And for the truly obnoxious I end with) Or you could go in the next few minutes with my hand wrapped tightly around your throat." Where upon I start chocking the living dodo out of an a-hole that desperately needs it, unless of course they grab a clue and run like hell away from me.
Always ask why.

Yup... I took a little trip last month, and during such, I was able to spend a little time with one of my dearest old friends. Right away, as soon as she learned that I was travelling on my bike, she started in with overwhelming concern for my safety, reminding me that a cousin of hers crashed his bike many years ago. Argh! I'm a believer that we regret what we DON'T do more than what we end up doing in life. I'd like to stick around in this life for as long as possible, but honestly, I don't really care how or when I die, as long as the moments I'm living are as good as they can be. And that includes planting myself on my bike once in a while. Carpe diem, brothers and sisters!!

Cheers,
Loonette

I'm sure many of us know someone who seriously injured themselves while slipping in the shower, or while playing a sport, or heck, while driving a car, but we're not telling each other to stop using the bathroom, playing sports, or driving. dodo happens, after all. What is it about motorcycling that compels people to have overwhelming concern for our safety. Strange.

And I'll bet not a single loved one said (with patronizing concern), "Bathtubs . . .those things're gonna kill yah someday." or "Here in the ER we call 'em 'donortubs'." or "I wouldn't want my kids/spouse/relative to shower in one of those death machines." or "There are only two kinds of showerers . . . those who've slipped and those who are going to."

I did have a good time. Including on one of the days, when a riding buddy cancelled on me because she decided to do something different with her husband, so I ended up riding alone. In 2 days, I put on about 600 miles, visited with two friends and a cousin in three locales, hung out for a bit at the gravesite of my great-grandparents, and went to two parties. It was good... :-)
