black vs. chrome vs. satin or other

#1 Unread post by Ronnny »

With a lot of motors coming with a black finish now instead of just a satin or plain finish how hard are they to keep clean? The plain finish seems easier than chrome to me but just wondering about the black finish on a lot of newer bikes.

I 've never had a problem with keeping any of the black oem parts clean. However, the aftermarket pipes I'm running are ceramic coated and will develop some kind of oil/water spots on them from time to time that take a little extra effort to clean. Other than that, everything else is fairly easy. I simply wash and wax the same way I would with any other bike. I will say this though, with the fender struts, as well as the other parts coated with the Yamaha "midnight" black, it's not recomended that you get wax on them. The few places I accidentally did, seemed to get lighter in color until the wax could wear off. Most of the other black parts I have are either painted black or, have been powdercoated.
