Exhaust pipe discoloration

#1 Unread post by Sundog65 »

Hi all,

Due to a carburetor problem with my 2009 V Star 1100 (which I've had fixed), one of my exhaust pipes has become slightly blued. Is there a way to restore it short of replacing the pipe?

Thanks.

Chrome polish?
When I bought my BMW long ago this was one of the questions but the answer in the BMW world is - live with it or polish nearly continuously.

That's kind of what I thought. Once the metal is blue, it stays blue. Thanks.

Triumph Bonneville's do this with just a few hours of running from new. I've heard of a few products that allegedly remove the bluing, but I never heard that any of them work real well. Most Bonneville owners just accept it for what it is.

I forget if I saw it here or discussed it with a fellow enthusiast, but I seem to recall someone else with blued pipes who had them blued down the entire length so it looked on-purpose. I never saw the finished effect but I'll bet someone has an example of such a modification. Just a thought.
