polishing bare metal

#1 Unread post by kar_the_terrible »

I was wondering if its possible to polish the bare metal to a buff instead of painting it. Kind of like the toaster tanks on the 70's BMW's. is the metal still plated or something? or is it possible to buff it to a shine and not have it rust??

Curious about my options here. Anyway, there IS a dent in the tank so this idea might not take off unless I find a affordable tank.

Most tanks are steel. If you take them down to bare metal, they'll need some sort of coating (plating, clearcoat) to keep from rusting. If you have any significant moisture in the air, a bare tank will start to rust within hours.
