Hey there people!
Here's my story: I have a 1985 Magna V30 with an engine that "knocks" a bit. I took it to a mechanic and he said it's nothing critical, it's just the timing that's out. Fantastic! But here's the bad news. He wants $200 to fix it for me. Granted, that is a lot less than a Honda dealer would ask, but I'm a college kid and I barely have $20. What I do have is some tools and some know-how. I have worked on this bike a lot and fixed plenty of issues myself.
From what I understand, the lifters are not timed correctly. A simple procedure, I hope, but I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to be fixing or where it is. I've consulted the manual and the internet, but neither could really help me. The 85 V30 wasn't a very popular bike, so not a lot of people make youtube tutorials for it. So I'm hoping you guys can help me.
A bit more about the bike. It runs. Beautifully and fast. It's a beast. But it's very loud. The knock (I'm calling it a knock for lack of a better word) is in time with the revs and if I rev it more, the louder it gets. It's kind of like a tak-tak-tak-tak type sound. Sorry if it's vague, but I don't have decades of experience (yet.)
Please help a young biker out. I'd be glad to answer any questions

Sure he said timing? Sounds more like valves to me.
If so there are plenty of YouTube videos on adjusting valves, and it's not that hard if you can use feeler gauges properly.
