repairing carbs in my bike! Need help

#1 Unread post by Stratman13 »

Alright so I am pretty new to the world of motorcycles but love to ride! I am starting to work on my bike myself and had a couple of questions about a small part on my carbs. It appears that some sort of plastic plug covers one of the jets and I had a hard time pulling it out to get to the jet that was under it. I broke a piece of the plastic plug and am looking to replace it, but the problem is I have no idea what it is called! I appreciate any and all help! Thank you. I have attached a link to an identical carb with the lighter tan plastic piece. thank you!.

Looks like it's called "cap, polyester" if it's part 11012

on a different forum there are some guys who are real wizards at cross-referencing the "where used" of parts. Manufacturers use the same parts in many places if they can. But any given outfit's ability to cross-reference ranges from easy to impossible. (I used to work at the first now at the second)

What you really need is a carburetor expert who knows what that part does functionally and who knows of other carbs that have similar parts. Might be a slightly different part number but could work.

The alternative is takeoff carbs from a different bike and you use the takeoff carbs or rob them of parts.

Or find something that will do the job from a completely different part of the world of parts.
(tractor parts, chair legs, craft supplies, blowgun projectiles, etc etc.)

It may be that the part diagram I found had something like an unwritten suffix to the part number which is why it couldn't be easily found.

but check this out:

http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/k ... -1128.html

In this discussion there is a suggestion that a Suzuki part will work also.

http://www.kzrider.com/forum/2-engine/3 ... -available

Looks like this is a common problem. Best suggestion sounds like the part comes in a carb rebuild kit?

I'm not sure that you can purchase that plug that covers the Pilot Jet in a set of
KZ440 carburetors.
I believe that part is Obsolete. I could be Wrong.
I have several sets of KZ400 Carbs in my Shop. I think I might have that Plug you need
in some spare parts.
