Oil filler plug question

#1 Unread post by NorthernPete »

Hey everyone! Got a question. My oil filler plug is plastic. It's got two little tabs on the top to grab to unscrew. One is broken off. While I can still take it off it looks like poop. I'm wondering if I go to a machine shop and get an aluminum plug made up to the same diameter and thread would this be an alright replacement? Would the material cause an issue? I'd use a rubber o ring in the build to ensure a good deal and there no dipstick involved.

Would aluminum work or end up a seized mess at some point?

You might look into the cost of the replacement part - if it's cheap it would be less hassle.
No reason aluminum would be a problem. Especially as that's an oil fill hole so there's lots of oil mist to keep corrosion minimized.
But getting the part custom -made could be pricey.

What material is the case itself that is threaded into?

Aluminum engine case I believe at that spot. As for the custom part, there's a machine shop in the area and I have a buddy who can get me fairly good deal. I'll check it all out though. :)
