WHOO HOOO we got the GIG

#1 Unread post by sapaul »

Heard of the Tour de France

well, you had the Tour Down under and due to the lack of experienced Marshals, they imported the French Gendarmes.

Now, we have the Tour of SA........ drum roll

and we got the gig. The Think Bike Marshals of which I am one of 4 Head Marshals have got the nod to do a national tour. 7 days from the top end of the country to the bottom with lots of staging in between. The money is rubbish but the experience  ................ aaww man. This will be better than the World cup gig we did.

Check the routes out here http://www.tourofsa.co.za/

Sounds great man! Considering that you ride BMWs it's very fitting (they do use BMW motorcycles for the Tour de France right?) Anyhow will they be mounting GoPro or similar cameras on the ride they give you?

You also made a funny, this is AFRICA. There is no big budgets here and typically they will all wait to see how this first one goes.

We are using our own bikes so there will be all makes and sizes. Sunday is going to be really interesting as we have a 10 AM start and a likely 2:30 finish. We then have a 6-7 hour ride to our overnight stop. There will also be a 1400 km ride back to JHB from CPT. This one is going to be punishing.

Oh no, I know you're in South Africa but the bikes they use in Tour de France are what make? I'd figure the governing body would try to use the same types for other races in other locales. :cowboy:

Shame you guys have to add wear and tear on your own rides but still it's a great thing to be a part of.

At a recent meeting, we were informed that one of my crew could be listed to go to the next Tour De France and ride with the Gendarmes.

Man oh man, that could be something.
