Please help me eliminate a few choices

#1 Unread post by Krakenvon »

I have put over 85k miles on my yamaha seca, it has been the only bike I have riden (unfortunatly) and now I am looking to find a diferent bike. I have found four different bikes on sites like craigslist. A few are in other states and some are a few hours away so I would like your input so I dont have to waste my time on a few. I do realize I can go to a shop and see/test them out but there are many things on my list I wont be able to test. Please pretend all of these bikes are free since there is minimal price difference.

2002 Daytona 955I
2000 suzuki tl 1000s
99 yamaha R1
98 Ducati Monster 900 "this one is a bit more expensive"

I am looking for:

a daily rider about 80 miles a day
comfortable 2-up for the passanger, its amazing how many women want a ride
strong low and mid range torque, even when 2-up
great on the twisties
handles highway speeds for very long trips up to 12 hours.
has the "fun factor"

I dont go to the race track and very seldom go over 100mph.
The looks are not too important because I will most likely street fighter it if I dont like the fairings.

There is a lot said about these bikes but I do not have the perspective or knowlege to know how bad or good the pros and cons of these bikes rank up to each other.

Thank you all in advance for your help

The bikes you listed don't really fit the bill. What about an FZ-1 or 6

Hey James,

Welcome to the forums!

I'm with storys on this ... those bikes don't really fit the bill, particularly for long distance riding and 2up. Are you interested in looking at other models, or willing to kill a requirement or two off the list?

If you do want to stay with those ones, perhaps the Ducati would be the best...?

Sounds like you are looking for a sport-touring bike. I would agree with other responders that none of the ones you listed fit the bill, even the Ducati, wouldn't a Hypermotard be better? My neighbor had nothing but headaches with the Daytona and it was NOT comfortable for a passenger.

I know you posted a while ago but since it was the end of the season ( where I live at least) thought you might be shopping for a while. If you have a particular person in mind for 2-up, take her with you.
