ran out of fuel

#1 Unread post by TheBeardedRider »

So after I've been practicing riding in my safety zone I decide I'm ready to go out on the road. I'm cruising, freezing, having fun. I'm on my way back and run out of fuel. pretty funny, had two people stop to help out. They were of course motorcycle riders.

We carry a manual siphon rated for gasoline when we ride, picked it up at Harbor Freight for maybe $15. Haven't had to use it yet, but nice to know it's there.

I'm glad you had help show up, we all try to stick together. (-:

I used to carry a 1 liter fuel bottle, it was rated for gas so I filled it and kept it in my saddle bag, something a little hard for you to do...

This makes me laugh at myself. I've never run out of fuel on a motorcycle, which has no fuel gauge, but I ran out of gas twice in a VW GTI years ago...I ran it dry, then filled the tank and ran it dry again.

I need to look into an approved bottle for extra fuel. The small tank on my Shadow doesn't always go as far as I would like. I can't imagine riding my bike out west with it's limited range. Here in the east one is rarely 20 miles from fuel.
