DIY Forum?

#1 Unread post by Sev »

What does everyone think about putting in a Do It Yourself forum?

How to: sync carbs, adjust brakes, change lines etc etc etc. Maybe even how to manufacture or jury-rig some of the special tools you'll need to do certain jobs.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

If you're so into it, why ask us? Just go Do It Yourself....

Ok, serious now, not a bad thought.

I'm talking about a forum dedicated to single posts that explain in detail how to accomplish a specific task. EG -
how to replace brake lines
how to change your oil on a gixxer750
how to adjust your chain
how to replace your coolant
how to swap the swingarm from a VFR onto a CBR954

Those forums are dedicated to people asking questions with problems that they are having. This would be a forum dedicated to getting someone through the process step by step (ideally with pictures). I'm hoping to write a couple myself this summer, and it would be nice to have a specific forum to put them in.

And you of all people shouldn't be talking about, "the correct forum to put something in."

Yes Dohun, I do the work on my bike myself. Grow up.

im just saying we already have forums that deal w/ those.

i could care less whether you use the right forum or just post it elsewhere.

wherever you post DIY stuff, it's all fine by me. so you can't really tell me of all people should not tell anybody where to post stuff since i don't care where other post their stuff either.

besides, most of my post are related to the topic... most poeple just feel that everything i post should be in my blog.

No, we have a forum that was set aside to ask questions and seek help. Which means it gets posted in constantly and and DIY's either get pushed down to the last page where no one reads them, or they would all have to be stickied meaning new posts wouldn't show up on the first page.

Having all the DIY's in one section makes sense to me, especially if they are organized. Perhaps by make and model, or just general info. Things like torque settings and how to remove specific fasteners plus exact pictures of what you should be looking for on a specific bike would make for an amazing resource down the road, and would be perfect for someone who wants to start working on their own bike.

oh ok, i see.

but perhaps your DIY shouldn't even be a forum.

maybe it should be in total moto's main page instead.
