Great rides where YOU live

#1 Unread post by High_Side »

I spend a lot of time reading peoples blogs to learn about where all of the great rides are and some of you are posting some pretty amazing stuff. So the idea for this thread came from the opportunity to post up a pic or two of great rides within 160km (100 miles for my American friends  ) of your home.

So start off by posting the name of your city, and your country and the location of the ride. Follow it with how far the ride is (or picture is) from your house and how long it takes you to get there. Details about why you like it will help. It doesn`t have to even be a great ride, just interesting is some way. And post them pics. I wanna see!

I`ll start us off.

Calgary Canada
Hwy /40 to the west of the city
Awesome scenery - what else can I say?
These pics were taken about 140 km from my house (just over 1 hour away :P ):

And on the way to get there:

GREAT topic! What a fantastic idea about sharing photos, your riding likes and talking about your fav rides too. :D

Me: London, England. (temporarily)
Road: Breakspear Rd South and flows into Breakspear Rd North, then Park Lane and Coppermill Lane.
Why: Addictively "dangerous" road. Perfect mix of speed (40mph), tight hairpin curves, slight strights, valleys and hill cresests as well as forrest, bridges, views and even a canal boat river crossing. Just love to blast on it*. Reverse and it's different but just as fun back the other way.
Where: About 15 minutes away from house.

* Note: You would think I'm a sportbike rider how I talk about this road and my riding style, but truly, this road would produce a grin on anyone's face no matter what you ride. This road makes both the case for and agaist getting a crotch rocket. haha.

Blue Ridge Parkway / Skyline Drive

#5 Unread post by bandit600 »

I posted these pics in an older thread but I think they really belong here :)

Virginia, USA
Skyline Drive (Blue Ridge Parkway) between Stanardsville and Front Royal, VA
These pics were taken about 120miles from my house (about 2.5 hours away)

The Blue Ridge Parkway follows the Blue Ridge Mountains through North Carolina and Virginia. It's got amazing views and the roads leading to the Parkway are full of switchbacks and twisties. My trip usually involves a full day of riding but returning home in the late afternoon.

Next riding season I plan to take a multi-day trip and go all the way down to the end of the Blue Ridge Parkway (469 miles). Enjoy the pics:

Cultus Lake, Columbia Valley loop. Sumas Mountain, Clayburn and back.
That's in the Fraser Valley.

Daytripping at its finest. :)

I like it a lot. I love the exhaust note with the aftermarket cans and I really like the on demand grunt it has. Like when I'm on the highway doing 65mph, ~108kph for you guys :), it feels like it's got just enough power to keep the bike at 65. But if I need to pass someone I twist the throttle and it awakens the sleeping beast.

My only complaint is that it seems like Suzuki cut a number of corners on the bike that should have been at least service bulletins or some outright recalls but the bean counters at Suzuki managed to dodge several bullets. Most of these require homemade fixes (done 2 of these so far) or extra preride checks.

All in all it's a really fun bike. I would have preferred the naked version but they're hard to come by in the US since Suzuki stopped selling them after the first year (2003). I'm saving up to get bar risers to help with that though.

I wish I had the opportunity to ride a Duc like yours but I have no other twin experience to compare against. So far me likey :D

The Duck is gone, as it wasn't even in the same city as the KTM's ballpark. I never had a chance to ride an SV-thou but I did time on a TL 1000 and it was a blast. If the SV is anything like it, you've got a great machine.

Cheers,
