Having owned one - good riddance!

I think so, too. Sadly, though, I won't be riding one anytime soon, as Suzuki's Web site says:
*Unfortunately, this model is not available in California.

Don't they sell the classic version of what you already own in SA?

Don't forget the Suzuki Savage (S40), it has been made UNCHANGED for over 27 years now (since 1986!) and CURRENTLY is the longest running unchanged motorcycle model in any big manufacturer (even the sportster from H-D hasn't remained unchanged for so long).

So, this is truly a retro-bike as well. But not a modern-retro other than it's still available as a 2013:

Budget for the termi kit (cans, air filter and ECU if you want it to run correctly), budget for suspension to replace the utter dodo that the bike comes with. If you can get past this, plus never feel the need to see the battery, it will serve you well.

Not that I'm bitter.....

Actually, if the bike had been better I wouldn't have moved on to own the KTM Superduke I have now - and that would have been the real tragedy
