Raw. Powerful. Genuine. Blacked-out from end to end, the 2016 Indian Chief Dark Horse® delivers pure, premium Indian Motorcycle performance...

Indian Motorcycle®, America’s first motorcycle company, presents the edgiest member of the Indian® Chief® line-up and
the first 2016 model — the Indian® Chief Dark Horse®.

The Indian® Chief Dark Horse® is a cruiser built upon the successful and award-winning Indian® Chief® platform. Unlike other bikes in the Indian Motorcycle® line-up, it is understated with only a flash of chrome and adds a healthy dose of matte black paint to create one of the most confident silhouettes on the market. By all but eliminating chrome from the motorcycle and swapping to cast wheels, the Dark Horse™ conveys an aggressive pose, and being the lightest in the series, is the quickest model in the Chief® family.

Striking an ideal balance of attitude and features, the 2016 Indian® Chief Dark Horse® delivers the style, quality and power expected from an Indian Motorcycle®, and starts at just $16,999. The Dark Horse™ conveys a bold attitude that demands attention for all the right reasons.

Blacked-out from end to end, the Dark Horse™ does not lack features. Powered by the highly rated Thunder Stroke® 111 engine and wrapped in the same chassis and suspension of the Indian® Chief® Classic, the Dark Horse™ also maintains ABS, a remote key fob for keyless ignition, electronic cruise control, and features a two-year unlimited mileage factory warranty.

Built to be an aggressive solo ride, the Dark Horse™ loses the oil cooler, analogue fuel gauge and driving lights of Chief® Classic. A passenger seat plus either passenger foot-pegs or floor boards are available as part of the Genuine Indian Motorcycle® Accessory line-up for those who want to ride two-up.

The second pic looks like a die cast model bike. Looks like a miniature scale toy than a real bike. :?

Also the mfugliest matte paint ever. Looks more like a Krylon spray can primer than a factory paint job. :?

well, personally I don' t mind the paint - if I wanted matte black that's what I would expect it to look like. So, if you don't like it you aren't going to buy this model. The only thing that I find jarring about it is the headlight cowling which seems to me to lack the voluptuous styling of the rest of the bike. The word "clunky" comes to mind. Not being that familiar with the looks of the rest of the Chief line-up, I don't have much to compare it to but I like a nice retro look in a bike, even if I'm not going to ride it.

At this point, being in Toronto, seeing pictures of anything being ridden on bare pavement (or one of those annoying steel mesh bridges) is exciting enough to win a cool vote.

Awesome. Although I don't buy into the idea that Indian has risen from the dead to take its rightful place as the Original American Motorcycle, I think Polaris has done a fine job designing and bringing to market some sweet cruisers. The Dark Horse is another interpretation of that, and the blacked-out look works for me.

I liked the idea, but I still gave it an uncool vote.

The idea of making an inexpensive Chief is really good, and that usually comes at a cost, here it is chrome and paint. With the $5k+ savings, you could paint it your colours, add your own accessories and you would still be under the regular Chief price... maybe that's how one should look at it, it's a canvas that allows you to create your own Indian Chief and it's affordable to do so rather than a finished bike...

Your Coolness Factor of the 2016 Indian Chief Dark Horse is:

Awesome (3 points) 29% [ 9 ]
Cool (2 points) 29% [ 9 ]
Uncool (1 point) 26% [ 8 ]
Fail (0 point) 16% [ 5 ]

Total votes: 31

= a Coolwall Factor of 57.0%

NOTES: We almost had our first 4 way tie on the Cool Wall with the new 2016 Indian Chief Dark Horse! It's definitely controversial in design and offered at a price to get riders into the Indian Chief line that won't break the bank. But readers are very split if they love it or hate it. If you think if this affordable Indian as a blank canvas with a low cost maybe it isn't so bad. I know I'm looking forward to see what comes from Indian this year...

Get excited as the next TMW Cool Wall bike is now up for voting and discussion, have fun!
