Detroit, MI - The 2016 Detroit auto show has seen a lot of concept cars over the decades, but a four-wheel motorcycle powered by a 645-horsepower V-10 engine is a first. Everyone remembers our original Dodge Tomahawk motorcycle concept bike, now we at Dodge are making it a reality for 2017.

DaimlerChrysler AG's (NYSE CX - news) (DCXGn.DE) Chrysler arm unveiled the Dodge Tomahawk -- essentially the 8.3 liter engine from a Dodge Viper mated to a motorcycle frame. Chrysler executives said while the chrome-draped Tomahawk was outlandish, they were seriously considering whether to build a few thousand models at a price of at least $35,000 USD each. Everyone loves the Dodge Hellcat muscle car and have been telling us, "we want a hellcat motorcycle", so we made one.

"This is for people who are passionate about engines," said Chrysler Chief Operating Officer Wolfgang Bernhard, who rode the Tomahawk on stage during a media preview. "A motorcycle is the most beautiful way to showcase an engine."

The 1,500-pound Tomahawk can reach 60 miles an hour in about 1.5 seconds, has a theoretical top speed of 690 mph. Dodge is worried what breaking the sound barrier will do to commuter cars around it on the highway. Each pair of wheels is separated by a few inches and each wheel has an independent suspension. Bernhard said four wheels were necessary to handle the power from the engine.

The Dodge Tomahawk is a Chrysler Group design concept that is as much a Viper-powered work of art as it is a whole new type of vehicle invention. It is both a sculpture that can be ridden, as well as a bold statement about the Chrysler Group’s enthusiast culture and passion for design.

Chrysler executives said with the Tomahawk Viper V10 SRT GTS int production, it will draw attention to the Dodge brand in ways no ordinary sports car could. Bernhard said a decision on whether to build an espresso machine and V10 waffle maker for the Tomahawk could be made in several months.

The Tomahawk is a Viper V-10 SRT GTS based motorcycle, a 650 horsepower engine with four wheels beneath it. Ten hand-built reproductions, each to be sold at the smooth price of $55,000. If you’re power junkie looking for a collector’s item, this is the ultimate trip.

ENGINE

The heart and soul of the 2017 Dodge Tomahawk Viper V10 SRT GTS is its handcrafted, all-aluminum 8.4L V10 engine. This manual-transmission-controlled serpent of the road generates 645 horsepower and twists out 600 pound-feet of torque.

Handling

2017 Dodge Tomahawk Viper V10 SRT GTS includes a single-mode high-performance suspension or available driver-selectable two-mode suspension featuring Bilstein® DampTronic® select shock absorbers with street and track settings. An available five-mode Electronic Stability Control System+ with launch control helps drivers maintain control of the car under almost any operating condition.

Outboard, single-sided parallel upper and lower control arms made from polished billet aluminum. Mounted via ball joint to aluminum steering uprights and hubs. Five degrees caster. Single, fully adjustable centrally located coil-over damper (2.25-inch coil with adjustable spring perch); pullrod and rocker-actuated mono linkage. Center-lock racing-style hubs.

Hand-fabricated box-section steel inboard swing arms, incorporating "hydral-link" lockable recirculating hydraulic circuit parking stand. Single fully adjustable centrally located Koni coil-over damper (2.25-inch coil with adjustable spring perch); pushrod and rocker-actuated mono linkage. Center-lock racing-style hubs

Braking

The 2017 Dodge Tomahawk Viper V10 SRT GTS features a robust Brembo brake system with accent painted fixed aluminum calipers and 14x1.26-inch vented/slotted rotors. Braking is firm and confident even under extreme track conditions. And for serious racers, optional Brembo carbon ceramic brake rotors and pads offer superior performance by maintaining their strength after numerous hard stops and holding up better with repeated use.

BRAKES:Front:

14-inch perimeter-mounted drilled machined stainless steel rotors, one per wheel. Two four-piston fixed aluminum calipers per wheel (16 pistons total), custom designed. Blue anodized caliper finish. Hand-activated.

Rear:

14-inch perimeter-mounted drilled cast-iron rotors, one per wheel. One four-piston fixed aluminum caliper per wheel (8 pistons total), custom designed. Blue anodized caliper finish. Foot-activated.

Wot-a-peice-o-dodo, its not a motorcycle and should not even be on this board. It's nothing more than a pretentious overpriced POS of pretentious wannabe's with way too much cash to fling around and way to big egos......we need a whole new option for POS like this, hmmm, yes......a POS option would do nicely. This thing doesn't fail, it rates POS.
Always ask why.

This: "Dodge is worried what breaking the sound barrier will do to commuter cars around it on the highway. "

Well, also the "DaimlerChrysler AG" reference. Daimler sold Chrysler in 2007. Didn't notice that one at first!

Oh, I don't know, probably the waffle-maker accessory, ( I mean I could see it with an espresso maker but a waffle-maker, that's a Harley accessory, everybody knows that).

2 different weights, 2 different prices, and Chrysler would not be worried about anyone breaking the sound barrier commuting, all any commuter wants is to break the speed limit. (oh! I forgot, you live in Calgary, not Toronto, everybody rides horses there on that Trail street, right?)

Have a nice day.

Yes indeed. I thought since this years Cool Wall started on April 1st (and I've never done an April Fools joke on ya'll) why not? :)

So the question still remains though, while the SRT GTS version of the Dodge Tomahawk doesn't exist, the 2003 Dodge Tomahawk still does. What do you think about that?
