I'm planning to ride to Florida for a conference in the near future. I'm gonna be meeting a friend of mine who would like to take a day trip out riding while we're there. I have a helmet here that fits her, but it's here and not with her. Is there any safe way to bring it along on my bike without a trunk or something? I hear it's easy to damage them by not doing it right (like strapping on top of the back rest). Any thoughts?

I see lots of ppl using the 'bike sized' cargo nets to hold them onto the bike. That's what I'd do, if I didn't have my top case.

First, you might consider finding a rigid or semi rigid helmet bag - Scorpion has a good one.
You want to use something that doesn't stretch, to secure the helmet for a long trip, a wind gust could shift the helmet (possibly off the bike)... a cargo net doesn't fit that bill.
Another option would be to SHIP the helmet to your destination. NO worries about safe transportation and insurance available to boot!.

I use a net when I have to bring an extra helmet with. It has six or eight hooks, and fits tight enough that there's no way wind or vibration is going to move the helmet around as long as the hooks are securely placed. I use a cable lock like this one through the chinbar and rack to make sure no one walks away with my lid.

If you are not worried about esthetics, a milk crate works. You can even get one to colour coordinate with your bike.

Yeah that's fine, strap it to the pad with a bungee net of some kind and it should be perfectly fine.
