any bike that continues to sell well for a quarter of a century with virtually no improvements has to be awesome, no?

This bike really is a sentimental favorite for me, but these days, it's barely on the cool side. If I was gonna recommend a 250, I'd suggest a Suzuki TU250X, Ninja, or Honda CBR, depending on the style of bike the rider prefers. Just, newer, more interesting, y'know? And I prefer the retro standard styling of the Suzook to the cruiser styling of the Rebel.

The Honda Rebel 250 is very long overdue for a restyling, etc... and I voted uncool, because the Yamaha XV250 Virago / Vstar is a way cooler looking small cruiser with the right motor.

no time at present so here's some verbiage from Wikipedia, "the free encyclopedia" --whereas my time is more expensive :-)

The Yamaha Virago was the first V-Twin-powered cruiser-style motorcycle produced by a Japanese manufacturer, as well as one of the earliest mass-produced motorcycles with a mono-shock rear suspension. Originally sold with a 750 cc engine in 1981, Yamaha soon added 500 cc and 920 cc versions. The bike was redesigned in 1984, switching from a rear mono-shock to a dual-shock design, and adding a tear-drop shaped gas tank. That year, Harley-Davidson, fearful of the inroads the Virago and other new Japanese cruiser-style motorcycles, pushed for a tariff on imported bikes over 700 cc. Yamaha replaced the 750 cc motor with 699 cc version to avoid the tariff, while the 920 cc engine grew to 1000 cc, and later 1100 cc. In the late 1980s a 250 cc Virago was added. A short production of 125 cc was also manufactured. [Yamaha made a XV125, XV250, XV400, XV500, XV535, XV700, XV750, XV920R, XV1000/TR1, XV1100. The XV400 being the rarest of the breed.]

For Sale: Ninja 600 with parts bike, needs minor work, $30, no title... (GEE THAT DOESNT RING ANY WARNING BELLS DOES IT?)

Good point or the Harley-Davidson Sportster. Honda is still making the Honda Cub (50) in parts of the world as well.

But in the North American market, an unchanged bike is something to behold really, as we love updates and changes. If Honda didn't feel they needed to update it, then it was pretty much as good as it can be at that price point.

Eh, sportster has changed quite a bit since it's inception. Went from chain drive to belt drive, went from 1000 ccs to either 883 or 1200, completely different transmission in it now. It used to actually live up to it's name...

Well selling well in a third world country like India is quite different from selling well in a highly industrialized countries like Japan and the US, where the demands and expectation of the consumer is exponentially greater.

That being said, I have to say the Bullet is way beyond awesome! :D
