Ducatis seem to depreciate very quickly right off the bat but once the depriciation curve stabilizes, it doesn't seem to go down at all and actually retain very good value. That sounds like the best strategy. I can't believe the pristine conditions of some of the garage queens (mostly the superbikes, not so much with the multis) up for sale with ridiculous low mileages and tons of expensive mods done to it. I don't know why some of these guys buy these bikes, spend thousands on accessories like Termi full exhaust, then never ride the thing. :?

I usually like Ducati's but when first saw one of these in April I really wasn't sure about it.

It looks a bit weird to me as the rear wheel is so exposed.

It definately looks like it's got attitude & I'm sure it will appeal to many, perhaps more so here in Europe.

I voted cool as it will turn heads & I'm sure get plenty of attention, but not quite awesome for me.

The bike is not really anything out of the ordinary or controversial. The styling by now is quite "mainstream" as the 999, the original multi, and the Hypermotard preceded it. I should be excited about this bike, but have never really summoned up any enthusiasm. I've been wondering why, and I think HYPERR hit it.

So I put the specs for this and the Tiger 1050 side by side, looking for a reason why I'd pay $3K more for the Duc. The thing that jumps out is weight - 80lbs less than the Tiger. That's a big deal to me personally. Nothing like less weight for getting more zip from a bike! Now my interest is piqued - a litre-sized adventure tourer that weighs less than my Bonneville. I sat on one at the NY show in January, it's definitely comfortable. So would I pay $14K for this? Not sure. :humm:

But Ducati gets a solid "cool" from me for the engineering effort. :D

By the time, you pick out the options you want and the tasty accessories, you will be lucky to keep it under $20K. :wink:

Which kinda settles it. Nice bike, but not that much nicer than a 1050 Tiger. Or just keep the perfectly functional six year old V-strom I already have...

What an interesting concept - a utilitarian Ducati... hmmm never thought that would happen! It's missing some of the iconic Ducati look to it but it's still nice looking and it's great to see them get into a model that has broader usefulness than most of the rest of their drippingly gorgeous lineup.

I went with Awesome.

I don't think you can design a 4-in-1 style motorcycle any better than Ducati has done with the Mutlistrada,
but I also think you couldn't have asked for money for it ($15000!) or made it more complex either. An electronic Ride-by-Wire (RbW) system administers
different mappings... am I riding a motorcycle here or a Bentley and how much will it cost if things start to go wrong? And since the bike it designed to go
off road do I really want to scrach it or have it fail in middle of no-where?

The engine is the crown jewel "With the 150hp Testastretta 11° engine, a class-leading dry weight of just 189kg (417lb)" and just 417lbs...
Again, HOW MUCH? $15000! Ouch. Well, used it will be less and a better deal. I'd look at one used if I was in the market for a hot dual sport,
it wouldn't see much more than road though to be honest if I owned it (vs a cheaper dual sport).

Hit or miss in the market? Really I don't know, but Ducati sure could have something here...if there are enough people to pony up the cash for it.

I have had my 1200s for 7 months, I just completed a trip around half of Australia, 7200kms, about 10% off road, dirt trails. This bike is stunning, very comfortable, very very quick.

The only negative is I have to go back to work and will only get to play on a weekend. Btw, my last bike was a BMW 1200gs, I wouldn't go back, ever
