I'm an idiot.

#1 Unread post by vampfiend687 »

So a couple weeks ago, I bought an 82 Suzuki GS 750. I got home from getting my motorcycle permit and somehow lost the keys. I called the local locksmith and he was gonna charge me $200 if he had to come out and make a key for the bike or $30 if I brought him the ignition switch. I was wondering if anyone knew how to get the ignition switch off and what tools I might need.

I'm not sure about Suzukis of that era but with 80s Hondas at least you could get them from a dealer if you knew the serial number. It's long shot, but worth a shot nonetheless.

I'm not sure about your exact bike but aren't most japanese bike ignition switch of that era mounted with like two phillips screws? The wiring is usually a plastic quick disconnect as well.

Yup, yours are mounted from underneath with two bolts that come up from underneath the triple tree and screw through the ignition into it.

I hope for his sake, it's a 8mm or 10mm bolt and not a phillips.

If you decide to go the cheap route, you can get a different gas cap and wire in a pushbutton/flip switch somewhere hidden and not need a key at all!
