For those that live in a rural area, did using craigslist seem to get any responses for you?

Also for those that live where it snows and people put thier bikes away for winter, whats your opinion on outside temps and people getting motorcycle fever? As in to buy?

Any other free sources of advertising?

Thanks

My area is more suburban than rural - the one time I tried Craigslist, to sell the '04 Marauder we used to have, was very disappointed in the results. Months later we finally ended up using that bike as trade-in.

I used craigslist to find my 99 Concours. I've also used it to find a parts bike and sell my Yammie XS750 stuff.

I've been quite successful with craigslist. I've bought two bikes, sold one, sold a car, sold a tattoo setup and bought chickens...twice.

Prefer Ebay. Much better buyer protection.

I've bought many cars, bikes and other "stuff" on CL over the years. Never had a single problem. The only issue is their limited search feature. Once I learned how to use their screwed up boolean characters, I was able to drill down to what I was looking for. I also started using one of the third party websites that allows you to search several CL regions based on however far you want to search. I don't want to tick off a mod by posting a website but you can Google it. Or you can PM me and fill you in.

By the way the last thing I bought was a Suzuki that had been sitting in the guys LIVING ROOM for 20 years. Yep, his living room. Talk about the ultimate barn find!

I've always used kijiji.ca to sell our motorcycles. I've purchased off eBay.co.uk before for 2 bikes. (I would imagine the .com versions would be the same).

I have used Kijiji with great success. Have bought 2 cars and, most recently, ICON riding pants and the SR 250.
It is very user friendly and easily allows one to set up searches with multiple parameters - model year range, make, type, price range and distance from your location.

I have had success buying and selling. Timing is an issue.
Even in South Texas...it's almost perfect riding season,
but Craiglist list begins to grow longer as fewer people
are buying. In May it will usually pick up considerably.

Of course bike, price etc. also plays a big part. I'm kind
of amazed by people wanting top dollar + for their bike...
they can't even rinse 'em with a hose and dry them.
