Is my bike special?

#1 Unread post by Weaselcreature »

So another rider pulled up next to me the other day and asked what year my bike was. I answered, but as he was replying, the light turned green and I couldn't hear what he was saying as he pulled away, it was something like: "I wouldn't be riding an '86...[vroom vroom]" and as he road off he was shaking his head.

So, is there something special about a 1986 Honda VF500F Interceptor?
I know they were popular, especially as first bikes, for folks my age, and I get a lot of nostalgic comments from riders and drivers alike, but I just couldn't hear what this guy was saying.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Does it matter what that guy said? Small, but making good power from it's 500cc V-4, the little Interceptor makes a fine ride.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I love the bike. Great gas mileage, quick, and more than enough power for my daily commute. Although, truth be told, it's a long-term loan from a friend (2 yrs so far), and if it's some sort of collector bike, I'd rather return it and retain its value.

Well any way you look at it using a bike for two years is going to put some wear on the bike, but I know a guy that's been riding one to work for five or six years so it can be done.

Yup, the 500 was a very very good performer for it's day (and even to this day).

Cool you get to ride it! Keep the carbs clean... they're horrible to pull on that bike.

And don't wait for the chain to wear out. Change out the sprocket set at the same time.
