Pet Peeves of the Morning

#1 Unread post by jstark47 »

I'm in the mood for a rant. Read it or skip it, but maybe you'll find some things here that set you off, too!!
  • Peeve #1- Drivers of vehicles (usually construction or waste management trucks) that spew copious amounts of water out the back on subfreezing mornings. Thereby making an artificially-created half-mile long black ice slick......

Peeve #2- Road construction crews that leave signs up announcing the lane is closed...... and it's not. Thereby panicking the sheeple cagers, who start making kamikaze lane changes to avoid the impending closed lane..... which is open. :bash:

Peeve #3- NJ DOT and their addiction to road salt. It rained hard on Wednesday, with the temps forecasted to drop at the end of the rainstorm, with some snow possible. Actually, there was no snow, not a flake. But NJ DOT salted I-295. They didn't just salt it, they slathered it with salt. Which will stay there for quite a while, since they put the salt down after the rain ended. Now, 36 hours after the last rain, I-295 is wet and slick. Why? Salt is hydroscopic, holds moisture. I-295 is going to stay wet and slick for quite a while. The local roads are clean and dry - municipalities probably have tighter budgets for road salt. But NJ DOT has more money (and salt) than sense. Idjits. :mad2:

So, what's bugging you guys and gals this morning?

It's evening here & I made the mistake of going to a large shopping centre at 4pm. getting in was easy but getting out was much more troublesome.

my peeves therefore are:

1/ why if there is a queue of traffic do drivers suddenly make up their own rules about roundabout exiting? :?

2/ why do drivers completely ignore all highway codes & queue across pedestrian crossings; junctions; hatched areas (no stopping) including completely blocking the local fire station? :? :?

3/ why do cyclists ride without lights :? :? :?

4/ why do learner riders ride without protection & in a suicidal fashion in the dark :? :? :? :?

5/ why is my bank balance significantly less healthy than it should be

all that just in the last hour

My pet peeve in the morning? My alarm clock, going off at 3:25AM, every morning, Monday thru Friday (and sometimes Saturday if I forget to turn the silly thing off).....
Always ask why.

1) People that drive all night long with only their daylight running lights on, don't they know that they don't have tail lights that way???
2) Car MFR's that don't put light sensors in their vehicles to automatically switch to full head light, tail light operation.
3) People that refuse to use turn signals.
4) People that pass you, pull in front of you, then slowww downnn...
5) Cold weather that freezes up the local fishing hole so I can't catch dinner.

And that's only how I'm feeling right now...

Dr Bar reminded me of a couple that really get my goat.
1. When I'm coming up behind you, you're doing 5 under the limit right behind the other guy going 6 under the limit, don't pull out in front of me still doing 5 under as you crawl past him. You can afford to slow down the extra 1 mph or speed up so I don't have to adjust my speed.
2. Drivers that pull out in front of you from a side street onto a main street, way too close for comfort to begin with, then don't accelerate! When I honk it's for a reason, don't honk back and flip me the bird, you're lucky I was able to avoid you!
