Re: This week: 2013 Yamaha FZ8: Vote Today
I'll start by acknowledging that I'm biased - but to me it looks like they are a big fan of the 2007 SuperDuke.
But the FZ8 has less attitude, less power, too many cylinders too.

Re: This week: 2013 Yamaha FZ8: Vote Today
I'm inclined to give any middleweight standard at least a cool vote. It's a great category, hardly a duffer among the lot. I really liked the FZ6 (almost bought one) and I like the FZ8 even more. The only reason this doesn't get an awesome vote from me is it's a really competitive category and there are some truly awesome bikes in it, like the mentioned Duke (well, the Duke 650 for a closer comparison), the MV Agusta Brutale 800, the Triumph Street Triple, or the Monster 800.

I love this bike, always have and always will. I'm a sucker for a naked sports bike / standard. I voted Awesome... of course!

The SuperDuke might have the correct number of cylinders, but they are obviously in the wrong orientation, they should be positioned like the CX500 and CX650 Honda's...and any other bikes that might just happen to use the same engine layout.

Re: This week: 2013 Yamaha FZ8: Vote Today
Ok, I noticed I didn't vote. So, I did.
COOL.
Yup, the seat styling (ouch!) maybe uncool to me, but it will introduce more riders to Nakked bike love. And the world needs more love, thus more naked bikes!
I don't think there is anything wrong with the FZ8 itself, but I find it a little bit of a confused bike... Is it a FZ1? A cheater 750cc? The FZ6 Fazer was a legendary bike, there was no need to push it to 800cc, the 650cc and 1000cc options were perfect, 800cc IMO is just too close to 1000cc and so is the price which is too close.
But that said, it is a bike that a rider could buy and live with, never need to upgrade and 800cc will do anything you ask of it and more. You can ride a 750-800cc bike and push it, even an experienced rider might get to 80-90% of the bike's capabilities, which is fine.
I couldn't agree with Yamaha more: "Special niche models are popping up everywhere. Unfortunately, most of us can only afford one bike. The FZ8 is a brilliant "all-rounder" with an upright riding position that brings fun and excitement to each and every ride"
A great bike, but Yamaha, get the focus back to a 650cc. There was a reason the 650cc range did so well for the FZ6, the FZ8, I just can't see it as successful.
