The all-round model R 1200 R is a truly multi-talented machine. The distinguished design, the well-developed DOHC flat-twin engine and the ingenious chassis with Telelever and Paralever make the R 1200 R a genuine Rock’n’Roll Roadster which will get the most out of every road in terms of riding pleasure.

Visually speaking, the revision of the R 1200 R is once again a real eye-catcher. The purist lines and the even more refined finish demonstrate the powerful character of the machine. Circular instruments, a high-quality fork, the double-butted aluminum handlebars, beautiful cast wheels, a chrome muffler as standard and much more besides - all this reflects an attention to detail as far as the eye can see. Especially in the Classic version, with is absolute Rock'n'Roll for the eyes with a wide range of visual highlights such as spoke wheels, chrome features and an attractive paint finish in black and white.

The air-cooled 2-cylinder twin engine offers a sonorous, throaty sound. After their appearance in the GS and R models, the two overhead camshafts and four radially arranged valves now see their debut here. Output has been increased to 81 kW (110 bhp), with a maximum torque which has also been raised to 119 Nm at 6,000 rpm. This means that the machine accelerates with even greater ease from low engine speeds, performing impressively in all situations on the road and delivers even greater pulling power.

The special equipment include safety features such as part integral ABS, ASC and tire pressure control, comfort and tour-oriented features such as ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), case holders and windshield. There are some impressive motorcycle accessories available for the R 1200 R, too, with an extremely light Akrapovic exhaust made of titanium, practical system cases and eye-catching chrome cylinder head covers.

The R 1200 R is an example of perfect synergy between the retro and the ultra modern. I love all incarnation of the BMW Boxers, air, oil, & hex; and I especially love the Roadsters. I'm biased as I own one but I voted awesome.

It looks great. The only negative I notice with the motorcycle is the price.

It's no bargain but it's not too bad. They were much more overpriced during the R1100R incarnation back in the mid 1990s when they cost about 13K with ABS. It got cheaper with the R1150R. I wanted the very first 2002 R1150R to hit my dealer back in the fall of 2001 and paid full sticker price of $9,995.

All BMWs are overpriced but their bike are nowhere as bad as their cars.

I voted cool...nice looking bike except for the headlight & guages...very dated looking...otherwise great bike. Although I didn't notice the price before I voted...a little high, but it is a Beemer...so a premium brand bike...meh.

Pricey but it is the "do-everything" bike so had to vote awesome.

Two immediate thoughts: 1) I'm predisposed to like any large-bore naked standard, and 2) I really DON'T like the elevated tail end on this bike. It looks like a caricature. So what gives?

A friend has a 2004 R1150R, and I think that's a classy bike. Looking at the '04 R1150R and '13 R1200R side by side, it's that tail end on the R1200R that loses me.

Sorry, BMW. All you had to do was leave well enough alone. Uncool.

Gave it an awesome for the following reasons:

1) It's a naked bike, nice.
2) Got a proper looking headlight
3) No stupid beaky transformeresque plastic snout.
4) That seat looks right comfy and built to hold you in place, plus the pinion rider is a bit elevated which should reduce the bumping of helmets while starting and stopping.
5) It looks right.

If I still wasn't so happy with my R1150R, I'd get one of these. A real elemental, do-it-all naked bike that's comfortable enough to tour on (plus it's got really nice OEM hard luggage available). It's also far less common than the equivalent R1200GS (itself a fantastic bike, but it's nice to have something a bit rare too). One caveat; I'm obviously biased, but I do think the R1150R is better looking than the R1200R. Lots of small details that annoy me, but this isn't the place to nitpick. I also prefer the earlier R1200Rs (swingarm, engine, heads, forks, wheels and telelever were just one shade of gray, instead of the four colors in the current one), but what the heck. Awesome it is.
