2016 Honda CBR1000RR SP Review

2016 Honda CBR1000RR SP on www.Totalmotorcycle.com

Racing improves the breed” Soichiro Honda…

Since its inception, the CBR1000RR has represented the essence of a genuine Superbike. By design, the CBR1000RR hits that ideal balance between power and handling that makes it so fun to ride on the street or the track. Now for 2014, the CBR1000RR’s performance gets even sharper with the introduction of the CBR1000RR SP. For the ultimate in performance, the CBR1000RR SP features fully adjustable Öhlins front and rear suspension, plus Brembo front brakes and Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC premium tires. A special lightweight subframe lowers the center of gravity (CG) and the CBR1000RR SP carries a single-seat cowl that shaves weight. Add high-performance engine parts, including pistons and connecting rods that are hand-picked to match weight and balance, and you have a finely honed instrument that brings the CBR1000RR SP’s performance to a whole new level.

TOTAL CONTROL

The CBR1000RR Fireblade SP injects a shot of pure adrenaline straight to the heart, with performance that takes Total Control to a new place. A place where fractions of a second saved over a lap count for everything and the ragged edge is where life truly begins.

The legend continues in the race for perfection.

LESS WEIGHT, MORE POWER. MASSIVE POTENTIAL.

The chiselled rear sub-frame is lighter, countering weight gain from the race specification Öhlins fork and Brembo calipers; the CBR1000RR Fireblade SP shaves 1kg overall.

The CBR1000RR Fireblade SP’s 999.8cc four-cylinder engine is armed with a gas-flowed cylinder head and polished ports. Peak power has increased by 2kW to 133kW and 35mm exhaust downpipes boost mid-range torque.

The flame never dies – The concept hasn’t changed.

That’s why we continually dominate road races like the Isle of Man TT where the Fireblade took the top three places in the 2013 Superbike race.

Today, the Fireblade delivers advanced power, balance and handling, with the development team concentrating their efforts on the chassis to enhance riding enjoyment even further. But don’t let our team riders have all the fun – get out there and try one for yourself.

2016 Honda CBR1000RR SP www.Totalmotorcycle.com Features and Benefits

Engine & Drivetrain

Improved efficiency

The cylinder head on the CBR1000RR SP’s 16-valve DOHC engine features polished inlet and exhaust ports and “gas-flowed” combustion chambers to improve efficiency. Gas-flowing (flow-testing on an air-flow bench) improves both the quality and quantity of airflow at high rpm when air resistance becomes much greater, thereby increasing combustion efficiency and outright power. The valve seats have been matched to the cylinder head and the intake funnels are “slash cut”, a design used in World Superbike.

Specifications, features, illustrations and equipment shown are believed to be correct – however, accuracy cannot be guaranteed. Honda Canada Inc. reserves the right to make changes at any time, without notice or obligation, in colours, specifications, accessories, materials and models. Some vehicles are shown with optional equipment. Some vehicles shown are U.S. or European models. Canadian specifications and models may vary.

Greater balance at high RPM

The SP differs from the regular CBR1000RR in the use of hand-selected engine components. The engine in each SP is assembled using “blueprinting” methods, including hand-selected pistons and connecting rods that are carefully weight-matched to achieve optimum balance – a benefit especially at high rpm.

More responsive

PGM-DSFI electronic fuel injection ensures precise air/fuel delivery and crisp and predictable throttle response, especially at low speeds and low rpm. At throttle openings of up to 25%, PGM-DSFI is programmed to produce relatively fine and consistent changes in power and torque output – perfect for extracting maximum drive at extreme lean angles. As throttle openings become larger, the changes in output become progressively greater. The overall result is an engine that responds with superior accuracy to throttle input and produces highly usable, linear acceleration.

Increased torque

The CBR1000RR-SP shares the same smaller diameter exhaust pipe as the CBR1000RR for increased torque.

Increased traction and stability

The MotoGP-derived Assist Slipper Clutch helps to ensure confident downshifting and deceleration as well as quick clutch re-engagement and light lever action. This clutch design not only provides slip in off-throttle conditions, but also positive lock under power.

Chassis & Suspension

Frame modifications

The SP’s die-cast aluminum twin-spar frame is based on that of the standard CBR1000RR, but uses a stronger triple-clamp that features precision CNC machining.

Öhlins upgrade

The Öhlins inverted front fork on the SP replaces the Showa fork on the standard CBR1000RR. It allows full spring-preload, compression-damping and rebound-damping adjustment.

Superbly balanced performance

Specialists from Öhlins worked with Honda’s engineers and test riders during all stages of development. The fully adjustable Öhlins rear shock that replaces the CBR1000RR’s Showa unit was developed specifically for the SP, and works with the Öhlins fork to deliver superbly balanced handling even at race-track speeds.

Aluminium gull-wing swingarm

Aluminium gull-wing swingarm As on the CBR1000RR, the aluminum gull-wing swingarm is deliberately long and combines with the MotoGP-derived Unit Pro-Link rear suspension system to deliver outstanding traction and rider feedback.

Enhanced stability

The second-generation Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) monitors speed and tailors damping force accordingly. It enhances stability at high speed by minimizing sudden steering-input changes, while also leaving the steering unrestricted – and light – at low speed.

Even lighter

A special subframe with solo seat helps the CBR1000RR SP shave a whopping 11 kg (24 lbs.) from the already lightweight standard RR.

Better braking

The SP steps up to gleaming Brembo monoblock four-piston calipers, which are fitted with special pistons and brake pads designed to give consistent and linear feel when braking hard from high speed.

Superior wheels and tires

12-spoke cast aluminum wheels perfectly complement the new suspension setup. Super-sticky, track-ready – and fully road legal Pirelli Supercorsa SP tires are fitted front and rear.

More compact design

Centrally mounted 17.7-litre fuel tank is positioned low in the frame, improving mass centralization and allowing for a more compact design.

Additional Features

Celebrate with colour

Vibrant orange Repsol livery helps celebrate Honda’s domination of the Moto GP world championships.

Improved handling & better comfort

Layered fairing design improves the flow of air through the cooling system and also creates a large pocket of calm air around the rider for better comfort. An integrated chin spoiler in the nose reduces aerodynamic lift to improve handling.

Important information at your fingertips

Multi-function LCD instrument panel communicates important information, plus includes a lap timer with memory function, five-level shift indicator, user-selectable modes for tachometer display, gear position indicator and more.

Optimum light distribution

Line-beam headlight features a two-piece reflector design utilizing two H7 bulbs for optimum light distribution and a unique compact design.

LED taillights

LED taillights for improved appearance.

Maintenance-free battery

Lightweight maintenance-free battery.

Improved security

A compact car-style wave-design ignition key offers improved security and greatly reduces the chance of breakage.
