2016 Zero DSR Review

2016 Zero DSR on www.Totalmotorcycle.com

More power. More Torque. Max Adventure...

The Zero DSR is an amped-up version of the Zero DS, bringing unprecedented levels of power and torque to the world’s most versatile electric motorcycle. For the dual sport rider demanding more, the Zero DSR delivers 56% more torque and 25% more power. A 660 amp controller is paired with a Z-Force® motor that contains higher temperature magnets to ensure better performance during extended durations at higher speeds. The result is exhilarating acceleration and even greater prowess off-road.

With a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds and 106 ft-lbs of torque on demand, the Zero DSR may be civilized but is by no means subdued. With custom tuned Showa suspension and Bosch ABS, it is equally at home on pavement and dirt. The Zero DSR is more than ready for maximum adventure…whether it’s in the city or places beyond.

A refined powertrain integrated with an off-road heritage

The Zero DS and Zero DSR share much of the DNA found in the Zero S but also incorporate technology that makes them ideally suited for a wider range of conditions. In the dirt or on the street, the Pirelli dual sport tires maintain a tight grip, and the specially engineered Showa suspension system absorbs the bumps. The result is a dual sport motorcycle that is ready for any surface you throw at it.

2016 Zero DSR www.Totalmotorcycle.com Key Features

For the dual sport rider demanding more, Zero has added more torque, more power and more speed to the world’s most versatile electric motorcycle.
»» 25% more power than the Zero DS (67 hp)
»» 56% more torque than the Zero DS (106 ft-lb)
»» High output 660 amp motor controller
»» Z-Force® 75-7R interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor produces power more efficiently, cools more rapidly and has higher thermal capability
»» High-temperature motor magnets for even better performance during hard riding and at higher sustained speeds

New for 2016

Farther and Faster

Years of refinement have made Zero’s versatile dual sport motorcycles even more dynamic. Smooth and stylish in the city—yet capable and robust off-road—owning a Zero DS is like having two bikes in one. And, for 2016, technological advancements will have you rolling faster and riding farther.

For the dual sport rider demanding more, we created the Zero DSR. A 660 amp controller adds 56% more torque and 25% more power to the Zero DS, the world’s most versatile electric motorcycle. The resulting acceleration is smooth and stunning.

At the heart of each Zero DS ZF13.0 and Zero DSR is an all-new Z-Force® motor. Its innovative interior permanent magnet (IPM) design cools more rapidly and has greater thermal capabilities. Performance is substantially improved in demanding conditions, both on- and off-road, and higher sustained top speeds are achieved.

To expand riding opportunities and provide access to the growing public charging infrastructure, Zero has effectively tripled charging speed with the new Charge Tank accessory. Leveraging the popular J1772 standard, the Charge Tank is designed to work with level 2 charging stations. ZF9.8 power packs can now be charged to 95% in about two hours, while the new higher capacity ZF13.0 takes about three hours.

New cell chemistry within the Z-Force® power pack stores more energy and operates more efficiently, resulting in a system that boasts the highest energy density in the electric vehicle industry. The power pack requires no routine maintenance and is backed by a 5-year / 100,000 mile warranty.

As Zero continues to raise the bar on its highest performance models, proven technology makes electric motorcycles even easier to own. With its impressive power-to-weight ratio, the 2016 Zero DS ZF9.8 delivers the thrill and convenience of electric at a new lower price.

Revolutionary Z-Force® Motor

Up to 67 HP, 106 FT-LBS… and incredibly efficient

Zero Motorcycles designed the Z-Force® motor from the ground up to be compact, efficient and powerful. It delivers exhilarating acceleration to a top speed of 98 mph on the Zero DSR. Completely air-cooled, the motor provides a fantastic riding experience, minus the need for any regular maintenance. When slowing down, the motor generates electricity that is channeled back into the power pack to help extend ride times.

· Designed from the ground up by Zero Motorcycles to be the world’s most efficient, powerful, compact, brushless and sealed air-cooled motor
· Interior permanent magnet (IPM) design on Zero DS ZF13.0 and Zero DSR increases efficiency, cools more rapidly, and has higher thermal capability
· Produces up to 67 hp and 106 ft-lbs of torque as configured in the Zero DSR
· Requires no routine maintenance
· Operates with such high efficiency that it does not require any complex cooling system
· Quad-level regenerative system recharges the power pack when decelerating · Re-gen level is increased during brake application vs. “neutral” deceleration
· Both braking and “neutral” re-gen levels are set higher in Eco vs. Sport mode
· “Custom” mode performance profile can be set using the Zero Motorcycles App

· Zero DSR model contains high temperature magnets for better performance at higher sustained top speeds

Frame and Bodywork

Great to look at. Even better to ride.

Aircraft grade aluminum is exclusively used in the construction of the twin spar frame. It is lightweight, strong and one of the main reasons that the motorcycles handle incredibly well on the dirt or street. Designed to have a low center of gravity, the Zero DS and Zero DSR are highly maneuverable and responsive. The refined, yet rugged, appearance is completed with sleek bodywork with a contemporary, aggressive and naked look. The ‘tank’ section of the bodywork features an integrated storage compartment that is both lockable and removable. The tank section can also be replaced with the Power Tank accessory for greater range or the Charge Tank accessory for faster charging.

· Beautifully sculpted bodywork and chin fairing provides improved cooling of the powertrain
· Integrated, lockable and removable storage compartment
· Extremely rigid and lightweight black twin spar aircraft grade aluminum frame
· Designed to have a low center of gravity for better maneuverability and responsiveness
· Sleek headlight and LED tail light
· The headlight, dash, key switch and bodywork are refined to provide elegant instrumentation and a sleeker front end aesthetic

Showa Suspension

The Magic Ride

Zero worked in close collaboration with Showa to develop suspension systems that provide excellent small bump compliance, predictable control of bigger impacts and exceptionally smooth action under all conditions.
