ADVENTURE UNLIMITED
The sun is setting across an open terrain. Around an embankment, the scenery opens. Your dirt path continues, zig-zagging to the bottom of a valley-your campsite for the night. Your heartbeat quickens as you look across the terrain ahead. You’ve made it this far, where the highway pavement merely took you to the start of your journey-you’re not stopping now. Returning for the 2017 model year is Kawasaki’s versatile, unstoppable and world traveling adventurer, the 2017 Kawasaki KLR™650 motorcycle.
Be it the tedious morning commute, the weekend ride or the multi-continent adventure, the 2017 Kawasaki KLR650 returns as one of the world’s most versatile ADV motorcycles. Comfortable for long or short trips, the KLR650 is a budget-conscious machine-with great fuel economy and a low MSRP ($6,699)-and a simply fun motorcycle. With its long-travel suspension, 650cc engine, and relaxed seating position it is the perfect motorcycle for the times you need on- and off-road capabilities.
The dependable KLR650 motorcycle is returning for 2017 with new color schemes and graphics. The standard model is offered in Candy Persimmon Red with a gloss red fairing, black fenders and side panels, along with Candy Persimmon Red KLR graphics on the fairing. It’s also available in Metallic Matte Carbon Gray, with a sleek matte grey on the gas tank and headlight fairing, mixed with gloss black fairings, fenders and side panels and a green KLR graphic; this color produces a subtle and sleek look for the KLR. And returning for 2017 is the Matrix Camo Gray edition, which features a new green KLR fairing graphic.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
” Dependable four-stroke, single cylinder 651cc
” Double-engine balancer for a smooth feeling to the rider
” Five-speed transmission
” Keihin CVK40 Fuel System
The single-cylinder 650 engine found in the KLR650 is beautifully balanced for smooth highway operation while having enough torque for off-road maneuverability and fun riding. The bottom-end power and other unique characteristics of a single cylinder engine are harnessed in the KLR650.
The five-speed transmission contributes to the robust bottom-end pull. This versatile package gives the rider the confidence and ability to trek across the environment from deserts to metropolitan traffic-all handled with the same high level of proficiency.

651cc 4-Stroke Single Cylinder Engine
Exhaust pipe has smooth bends for greater efficiency throughout the powerband.
A compact, smooth, reliable and proven design.
Special tuning to enhance power delivery.
Light, silent cam chain reduces engine noise.

Double Engine Balancer(KP)
Engine runs smoothly from idle to redline for rider comfort and less fatigue on long rides.

Kawasaki Automatic Compression Release (KACR)(KP)
Automatically lifts exhaust valve at cranking rpm to make starting easy and eliminate the need for a manual compression release.

Electric Starter
For easy and convenient starting.

Handlebar-Mounted Choke
Convenient location makes starting and warm-up easier.

BRAKES
Braking duties are handled by a dual-piston front caliper gripping a 280mm petal-style rotor, while a 240mm petal-style rotor is squeezed by a single-piston caliper in the rear.
Thanks to its stiff suspension settings, the KLR650 motorcycle has a neutral position under heavy braking. The suspension and brake package boosts the motorcycle’s on-road performance and increases its off-road versatility.

ERGONOMICS & EFFICIENCY
The KLR650 motorcycle seat has a narrow front section with a rounded profile to make it easier for riders to reach the ground, while also enhancing off-highway maneuverability. Towards the rear of the seat it has a slightly tapered profile, which produces a wider platform for supreme comfort for both the rider and passenger.
The rear luggage rack is built using a sturdy composite material, which is lightweight and ideal for long-distance touring. It can be fitted with a variety of optional luggage-related Kawasaki Genuine Accessories to make the KLR650 motorcycle a highly capable touring companion.
Coupling its contoured seat with a generous 6.1-gallon fuel capacity means riders will be able to enjoy long rides on the KLR650 motorcycle with confidence on the highway or trail.
Wind protection is handled by the frame-mounted bodywork, which includes a tall windshield and large shrouds.
The KLR650 performs competently on-road, and is able to continue once the pavement stops. An engine guard helps to keep loose rocks and gravel at bay, while its US Forest Service-approved spark arrestor allows the KLR650 motorcycle to access roads open to licensed vehicles. Add the optional tank bag, tail bag and saddlebags available from the range of Kawasaki Genuine Accessories, and you have a recipe for long-distance exploration, beckoning KLR650 owners to enjoy on- and off-highway adventures.

SUSPENSION
Whether it’s the urban errand-run or the adventure ride in the mountains, the smooth, adjustable suspension of the 2017 Kawasaki KLR650 motorcycle does the job. Firm fork springs allow for great bump-compliance and bottoming resistance, while the rear shock settings accommodate off road riding. The KLR650 suspension offers confidence-inspiring, nimble handling.
Front fork and rear shock settings complement each other for light, sharp handling on smooth roads, while providing trail riding capability. The suspension of the KLR650 provides an ample 7.9 inches of front wheel travel, and 7.3 inches of rear suspension travel. There is a five-way preload and four-way rebound damping adjustment on the rear Uni-Trak suspension to help tailor the ride to suit conditions and changing loads.
Together, the suspension and its long wheel travel makes the KLR650 motorcycle a fun and functional commuter during the week, a competent back-road hauler on the weekends, and a very willing partner for extended on- and off-highway adventures.

Long Travel Suspension
Firm fork springs provide excellent bump compliance and bottoming resistance while also reducing front-end dive under heavy braking.
Firm rear shock settings help resist bottoming in rough terrain and accommodate heavy loads.

ACCESSORIES
Just as durable as the KLR650 motorcycle itself are the Kawasaki KLR650 Saddlebags. The matte black, rubberized finish makes the saddlebags durable for around town or long trips. Easy and quick to install or remove, they can be utilized for long trips, or used all the time.
Travelling the world on your KLR650? Keep your Passport and registration handy with the Trans Handlebar Bag. The bag quickly and easily straps to the center of the handlebars without the need for additional tools or special mounting hardware. The water-resistant nylon bag holds 2 pounds of weight and does not interfere with tank accessories
