– 2000 Triumph Thunderbird Sport

Here is a motorcycle aimed at the rider who appreciates the traditional styling and authenticity of Triumph’s classic machines, but who still yearns for something extra when it comes to performance.

The looks certainly play their part. The striking single colour scheme options and lean appearance immediately suggest a sporting purposefulness, while the handling has been described by Triumph’s highly experienced testers as the most accomplished of this classic range of machines.

The suspension has a longer travel than the Thunderbird, for example, to cope with poor surfaces at higher speeds, while the wheels are both a sportier 17-inch diameter than the Thunderbird’s 16-inch and 18-inch wheels.

So that the enhanced handling of the Thunderbird Sport can be fully exploited, the engine’s power and torque are higher at 83PS (82bhp) and 76Nm (56lb.ft) compared with the 70PS (69bhp) and 72Nm (53lb.ft) of the Thunderbird’s plant.

Pillion comfort has been improved on the 2000 model by positioning the two silencers, one on each side of the rear wheel so that the passenger footrest can be sited lower down. The previous model featured both silencers stacked one above the other on the right side of the machine.

A restriction kit complying with European Union Category A Licence regulations (34PS, 33bhp) is also available.

NEW FEATURES FOR 2000

1. Repositioned silencers.
2. New colour option.

1. By moving the silencers to each side of the rear wheel, the pillion footrests have been positioned lower down, for improved long distance passenger comfort.
2. The Thunderbird Sport is now available exclusively in a classic Opal White with Tangerine infill and Gold coachline, a colour scheme drawn from Triumph’s heritage.
