For those seeking a do-it-all naked streetbike with the appearance of a hot rod with its engine clearly visible, exciting performance and an affordable price, Kawasaki rolls out the new 2001 ZR-7S. This “naked” machine puts its rider in a semi-upright riding position and is devoid of bodywork around the engine, yet there is just a hint of the famous Kawasaki sportbike influence in the styling of the shapely fuel tank and sleek tailpiece.

2001 KAWASAKI ZR-7S
New half-fairing adds another dimension to this all-around performer

Last year Kawasaki introduced the ZR-7, an attractive streetbike with exciting performance and a great price. With an upright seating position and an engine that delivers broad power, it quickly proved to be a versatile machine that is comfortable commuting, briskly covering twisty back-country roads or even extended trips.

For 2001 Kawasaki made the ZR-7S even more versatile by adding a stylish front cowling with a new gauge cluster and multi-reflector headlight. Now the ZR-7S offers its rider more comfort that adds a sport-touring dimension to the spirited middleweight.

The ZR-7S air-cooled inline four cylinder engine has evolved from a design that has proven its reputation for reliability and performance, and adds ultra-modern features like the Kawasaki Throttle Responsive Ignition Control (K-TRIC) with a throttle position sensor on the carburetors. Connected to the Digital Ignition system, K-TRIC varies timing according to throttle position and engine rpm so that the ignition compensates for differing engine loads for crisp throttle response and optimum fuel efficiency. The ZR-7 engine is tuned to deliver mid-range power, just like its new bigger cousin in the Kawasaki line-up, the ZRX1200R.

The double-cradle frame provides exceptional handling over a wide range of riding situations. Integrated tabs on the rear sub-frame provide a mounting system for optional Kawasaki accessory hard bags. The rigid, box-section swingarm actuates the Kawasaki UNI-TRAK® rear suspension system, which progressively increases the damping and spring rates on the single rear shock as the suspension is compressed for a smoother, more controlled ride.

Narrow handlebars with a low rise not only allow the rider to feel more a part of the machine, but also contribute to the ZR-7S’s comfortable riding position. Adding to the hot rod appearance are instruments from the Ninja® ZX-7R sportbike, a sleek tailpiece and a 5.8-gallon fuel tank – the largest in its class, a four-into-one stainless-steel exhaust system and lightweight cast alloy wheels.

With the addition of a front cowling, attractive styling, inspiring engine, comfortable seating and affordable price, the 2001 ZR-7S offers all-round Kawasaki performance and style at a great value.
