Speed Four
This is the machine that has totally changed perceptions of 'naked' 600cc
machines. Triumph tends to do things differently, and the new Speed 4 is another
visually stunning and mechanically refined example of Triumph's brave vision,
fresh thinking and quality production.
Launched to worldwide acclaim just before a fire at the Hinckley plant brought
production to an abrupt halt, the Speed Four has made a new market in the
600 class. Just like the Speed Triple changed the way people thought about
the unfaired machinery in the bigger capacity class.
Built as a high specification machine in its own right and not as a bargain
version of a Supersports 600, the attention to detail and quality shines out
in true Triumph tradition. Using the latest 2002 specification TT600 engine
as a platform, the fuel injected, in-line four-cylinder engine features different
camshaft profiles and re-mapped fuel injection for a broad spread of mid-range
power and torque.
The lightweight chassis offers all the abilities of a supersports package
- generous ground clearance, sharp, accurate steering, powerful, progressive
brakes and fully adjustable suspension front and rear.
Already coming out on top in tests against its rivals, the Speed 4 is also
sweeping to victory on the racetrack too. At the time of writing, a Speed
Four has qualified on pole, set the fastest lap and won the race in four out
of six rounds of the French Roadster Cup series. Proof, if any were needed,
that the Speed label is entirely appropriate.
Its looks are now part of the Triumph trademark styling: twin chromed headlights,
a neat instrument cluster behind a racy flyscreen, and this time, those purposeful
air scoops either side of the frame rails. And all highlighted in a choice
of either typically vibrant or more reserved colours.
