Triumph Tiger

The big Tiger towers in stature as a machine that can take on anything in terms of distance or dominate urban traffic with its commanding riding position.

The 955cc three-cylinder engine provides 104bhp and a peak torque figure of 97Nm (72ft lbs) at 6200rpm. No other bike in this class is as powerful and with the motor tuned for mid-range clout, the Tiger doles out almost instantaneous drive from any revs. Its combination of adjustable, long-travel suspension and powerful twin front discs brakes, and single rear, give it an agility out of all proportion to its size and ensure it can soak up the worst the poorest roads can offer.

The Tiger is fully equipped for covering huge distances in supreme comfort too. The fuel tank is a mammoth 24 litre (6.3 gallon US) item, a sturdy frame-mounted fairing keeps wind and weather away and powerful twin headlights swamp the road ahead in bright light. For 2003 the Tiger appears in new silver or orange livery.

As with all Triumphs a comprehensive accessory range is available, including hard and soft luggage, mudguard extensions and heated grips. As more and riders consider the advantages of big trail bikes for road riding, the rugged Tiger looks more and more exactly like the sort of beast for the job.
