2010 Suzuki RM-Z450

The 2010 RM-Z450, a thoroughly updated, cutting-edge open-class motocrosser that’s more potent than ever.

Across-the-board engine upgrades boost power from awesome to awe-inspiring. Detailed frame and suspension modifications improve an already sharp-turning racebike. Featuring Suzuki's electronic fuel injection with revised throttle valve movement increases overall power making the RM-Z an even more potent weapon for this 2010.

Ground breaking performance from a ground breaking machine. The RM-Z450 has the goods that deliver from the drop of tha gate to the checkered flag.

Two years after revolutionising the motocross world with its fuel-injected engine, Suzuki's championship-winning RM-Z450 motocrosser has raised the bar again, with the new 2010 model boasting a host of upgrades.

In 2007, the RM-Z450 became the world's first production motocross motorcycle to feature electronic fuel-injection, a ground-breaking move which has seen Suzuki lead race fields across the globe.

With Steve Ramon at the helm, the fuel-injected RM-Z450 won the 2007 team and rider titles in the competitive FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship.

The RM-Z450 is also Chad Reed's weapon of choice, the Australian superstar currently leads the AMA Motocross Championship, having dominated last year's inaugural Australasian Supercross Championship and scored regular race wins in this year's AMA Supercross Championship.

With other manufacturers still playing catch up, the new 2010 model has received a range of significant upgrades, including a further improved engine, a new frame and new suspension, set to keep the Suzuki RM-Z450 at the front of the field.

"Suzuki's RM-Z450 led the way with fuel-injected technology in motocross racebikes; it changed the face of the sport," Perry Morison, General Manager, Motorcycles, Suzuki Australia said.

"On and off the track, other manufacturers have followed our lead, and the
2010 Suzuki RM-Z450 is here to move the goalposts again.

"It's Suzuki's best motocrosser yet, with major engine, chassis and suspension developments, and is ready to continue the winning ways of the RM-Z450."

Further enhancing throttle response and power throughout its rev range, the 449cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid cooled, DOHC, 4-valve engine features a new cylinder head, piston, crankshaft, throttle body, cam shafts and valve springs.

Pioneered by Suzuki, the Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system is even better with a reversed throttle valve movement, directing mist away from the valve to produce more power and enhanced throttle response.

The perfect match for a potent engine, 2010 RM-Z450 riders will benefit from significant chassis and suspension development.

A new, more rigid, twin-spar aluminium frame is accompanied by a new subframe, linkage and rear swingarm, and enhanced, race-bred Showa suspension to help provide sharper handling, improved manoeuvrability and maximum traction.

With revised spring and damping rate settings at each end, 47mm inverted front forks are fully adjustable for rebound and compression settings, while the rear shock absorber offers fully adjustable rebound, compression and pre-load settings.

The new RM-Z450 also features a new radiator and significant electrical upgrades including ECU revisions, as part of the ultimate motocross weapon.

Key Features

Radiator Shrouds - 2-tone molded-plastic radiator shrouds give the RM-Z450 a slim feel and stylish look while also complimenting an all-new graphics design and color scheme

Aluminum fuel tank houses a KEIHIN fuel pump for optimum performance and a factory bike look

Aluminum-alloy swingarm for reduced weight and maximum terrain-traversing performance over bumps

Combustion chamber designed for strong low-to-mid range response as well as top-end pull. Narrower intake and exhaust valve angle guides along with increased squish areas improve air/fuel mixing and faster flame-propagation speed when mixture ignites

KEIHIN EFI Unit - Electronic fuel injection provides more acceleration power at low and medium rpm

Footpegs include maximum clearance between the mounting bracket and footrest to prevent mud from caking up

Gold-colored chain and axle blocks give a full factory look

Hot start lever is located on the right hand side of the handlebar for easy operation while holding the clutch

Race Inspired brakes - Race inspired brake rotors provide better cooling performance and increased mud deflection in muddy conditions

Showa Front Fork - Showa cartridge-style front fork is fully adjustable for rebound, compression and preload settings and designed for reduced weight and improved shock absorption

Slim Riding Position Slim Riding Position - Slim riding position opens up the cockpit for additional room to allow the rider to actively take control of the machine

Features

The cam chain tensioner provides enhanced performance

The RM-Z450’s electronic fuel injection is improved with a reversed throttle valve movement. The fine fuel-air mist from the 12-hole fuel injector is directed away from the throttle valve for a more uniform mixture producing increased power and enhanced throttle response.

The RM-Z450’s twin-spar aluminum alloy frame has received detail improvements to optimize rigidity balance. It starts with the head stock, which is now a two-piece design that’s 9mm taller than before. Further back, the sections at the rear of the frame, which are made up of extruded and cast members, are now wider for increased rigidity. More strength comes from a wider upper frame bridge beneath the saddle, while material wall thickness was strategically designed to save weight.

A combination of revised cam profiles and reworked cylinder-head porting give the RM-Z450 amazing idle-to-redline thrust.

For 2010, both ends of the bike are given suitably revised spring and damping rates—the new rates work together with the chassis’ optimized rigidity balance to improve handling.

A modified throttle linkage makes the low-speed response more progressive.

Engine Features

18-pin magneto-rotor senses feedback on crankshaft position, rotation speed and stroke which is fed back to the ECU to calculate optimum injection and ignition timings.

5-Speed Transmission makes the RM-Z450 versatile for various terrain conditions and features a link type shifting mechanism

Battery-less fuel injection system features a single-phase all-charging system with which the magneto supplies all of the necessary power

Combustion chamber designed for strong low-to-mid range response as well as top-end pull. Narrower intake and exhaust valve angle guides along with increased squish areas improve air/fuel mixing and faster flame-propagation speed when mixture ignites

Electronic fuel injection provides more acceleration power at low and medium rpm

Intake port angle and cam timing result in reduced intake resistance and heightened intake efficiency. Exhaust port and cam timing are designed to regulate exhaust pulses for maximum engine performance

KEIHIN fuel pump located inside the fuel tank provides stable pressure delivery to operate the fuel injection system

Semi-dry-sump lubrication system features separate oil chambers for the transmission and crankshaft using the transmission as the oil sump, allowing low crankshaft placement, reduced engine height and a low center of gravity

Chassis Features

2-tone molded-plastic radiator shrouds give the RM-Z450 a slim feel and stylish look while also complimenting an all-new graphics design and color scheme

Aluminum fuel tank houses a KEIHIN fuel pump for optimum performance and a factory bike look

Aluminum-alloy swingarm for reduced weight and maximum terrain-traversing performance over bumps

Aluminum-alloy twin spar frame is lightweight and has optimum rigidity balance for incredibly agile handling and unmatched performance over bumps

Footpegs include maximum clearance between the mounting bracket and footrest to prevent mud from caking up

Front fender incorporates a sloped-down shape to efficiently guide wind to the front number plate air ducts for improved cooling performance. Rear fender incorporates air intakes on both sides for heighten intake efficiency

Gold-colored chain and axle blocks give a full factory look

Hot start lever is located on the right hand side of the handlebar for easy operation while holding the clutch
