Just last month I was going down the highway in my car, a little too fast, i guess, and a motorcycle cop pulled out and put on his lights behind me. I slowed down, and pulled over, he pulled up close behind me, then he came up next to me, gave me a "motorcycle wave", and then went after the guy in f...

Hi Shalihe74 - Thanks for the reply, and yes, your advice did help. I think I am going to listen to my gut and stay in my neighborhood for now. I will get out there when I feel it is right. I wish I had someone to ride with, but we only have 1 bike!! We have friends in the neighborhood that have a d...

LADIES - Have you named your bike?

My son thinks I should name my bike (Ninja 250, black) "Ninja-poop". A play on Nincompoop, I guess?
I personally like the name "Black Mary" , a reference to the book "The Secret Life of Bees".

Hey RozStar, how's it going out there? I am pretty new. I passed the BRC, I have my license, and my bike (Ninja 250). I only ride in my neighborhood. Lot's of starting, stopping, turns, 1 steep hill, a good place to practice U-turns, and I ride probably every other day. Problem is, I haven't gone ov...

Thanks everyone for the good wishes for my Dad.
KarateChick, you are right! I'm not that much of a wimp if I'm out there on my bike. I will check out the Kawi Owners Group. May be after the 13th, when I get home again.
Thanks!

I am in Los Gatos, just over the mountain from Santa Cruz. There was a light dusting of snow on the mountain this morning. Very unusual! Where are you?

I passed my BRC!

Hi again - Just a quick post to let you know that I took the whole course again (cuz I could), and I passed, no problem. I feel so fortunate that I was able to do it all over. For free!! Practice practice practice makes me a better rider. What a blast. Thanks to everyone! Now I'm off to visit my Dad...

Newbie checking in

Hi- My name is Allison, and I am very new to this sport. I passed my BRC this weekend (2nd try). I feel fortunate that in my state (CA), if you don't pass, you can take the evaluation again, but you can also take the whole course again if you want. That's what I chose to do. My Dad is a MSF RiderCoa...

I just took my BRC last weekend, and I rode a Nighthawk. I liked it a lot. I have a Ninja 250 waiting at home, and so I definitely thought that the Honda Rebel was wrong for me. When I got home and rode my bike, it was very similar to the Nighthawk. I am a new rider, too. 42YY. My Dad started when h...

I thought the Ninja 250 is a "standard", not a sportbike. The footpegs are below, not behind.

EWWWW I can't look at your avatar. I have a thing about eyeballs. Yuck!!

Yes, I think if I just take it all a bit slower (except the box - may try second gear so it is smoother) I will be OK.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone - I'm feeling much better now. I was pouting. Everyone deserves a good pout every now and then. I'm going to give the school a call tomorrow and see if they have room this next weekend. If I can do it again for free, I'm going to go for both days, and maximize my riding time. My husb...

MSF is over

I don't see many posts here from people who didn't pass their BRC, but I didn't. javascript:emoticon(':(') I felt like I was doing great until the evaluation. On the second day, the first exercise at 7AM was the u-turns in the box. I did it no problem. I also did great on turns. The instructor kept ...

I did have trouble finding neutral on the Nighthawk, too. I could only find it right as I was starting the bike, before starting the engine. I screwed up a bit when shifting, because the shifter did a double-click. I always thought I was shifting through second to third, and so I would shift down on...

I just wrote a whole post and it disappeared when I hit a wrong button. My first class was great. Lots of fun, and I feel like I improved a lot, even though the instructor said we might not pass if there were more people in the class. None of us have ever ridden before. There are only 3 students in ...

I am just over the hill from Santa Cruz on Highway 17. Sort of your neck of the woods, eh? It will be a while before you get me over the mountain! I'm a thrill-seeking chicken.

I did buy good gear!! I got a white full-face helmet (Arai), I've got the jacket, the gloves, I even bought pants and boots. I value my health. My friends all think I'm a big poser because I bought all this stuff and still don't know how to ride. I told them that I'm most likely to wipe out as a new...

Got a bike, taking MSF this weekend!

Hi! I just got a ninja 250. I am a brand new rider. Got my bike the weekend before last, (superbowl weekend) and I'm taking the course this weekend (2/16-2/18). My husband thought I should take it out, and get comfortable with getting started out of first, so I did try riding it last weekend. Person...
