I have a Vance&Hine on my 1999 Ninja 500 from the previous owner, it had the center stand removed. I have read somewhere (cant remember where though..) that I can put the center stand back on and have it useable with a modified bracket. Those hoses are probably breathers or overflow. I'm guessing the black one is a breather or something to do with emmissions and the clear one is a carb overflow tube. I could be completely wrong as I'm not familiar with your bike though.

I've been noticing the Ninja 250/500R's and Suzuki GS500 as novice bike's, would those be good choices? I guess I'll have to see how they fit when I go to the dealerships to shop around.
