I purchased an S40 used and really enjoy riding it. It is a great bike to learn on. However, I will probably only keep it for a year and get something bigger next spring. It was bought new from the dealer a year ago @ $5000 with all the fees taxes, etc. I paid $3300 last April and it only had 1200 m...

I'm a small guy, so I can't advise on the size question. However, I have a S40 and it is incredibly easy to handle, has great maneuverability and is perfect for the Virginia country roads - and also for my short commute to work in moderately heavy traffic. I agree with the above, sit on it, and then...

LaVar Arrington? wow, I missed that one. Not killed, only hurt, but the guy was a big name around here until he went to the NY Giants.

Mega dittos to the above. I took it in April and paid top dollar to get in a class earlier, rather than later. I was fully qualified to ride around a parking lot on a Honda Rebel 250 (in the rain) when it was over. :) All kidding aside, the course range exercises are based on the Hurt Study http://w...

You ask for the study, which is provided...

Then we discover that the legally drunk drivers aren't drunk enough to support your point.

Oh and I would like to see a report that explains the idea of cell phone use having more of an effect than drunk driving. It sounds like a hoax to me. Alcohol impairs the vision, depth of perception, reaction times, among other things. A cell phone impairs one arm. The study, published in th...

Great advice!

If there happens to be a quiet neighborhood or empty parking lot nearby, spend a little time riding around and getting familiar with the bike before heading out into busier traffic.

Great replies and advice, and I have to ditto what the other new riders mentioned, I was nervous right out of MSF. First I rode around my townhome complex, getting used to the friction zone, practicing starting, stopping...early on weekend mornings when there wasn't any traffic. From there it was of...
