Re: new (to me) bike

Hey gratz on the bike!

To add to Dr. Bar's advice on correcting the low speed steering wobble also check the steering nut, sometimes it gets loose on those big bikes, don't over tighten though or the bike will want to wander at higher speeds.

Input on a New (old) Bike Kawasaki Voyager XII

I picked up a 1997 Kawasaki Voyager XII primarily to put an end to my wife pointing at every tourer she sees and saying "am I ever going to be that comfortable on a bike?" So I figured this is the bike we'll use for two up riding. I'll post up some pics when I get it, but it looks like this: Kawi Vo...

Re: Ever leave your bike in a lot while you took a trip?

I had to leave my bike for three months a few years ago, I rented storage space at a public storage. That worked out well.

Re: B.C. outlaws motorcycle 'skid lids' (about bloody time)

I'm confused... it doesn't sound like they're banning the "beanie" helmets or other open face helmets, they're only introducing the requirement that it must be DOT certified? Because this is pretty common everywhere else that has mandatory helmet laws.

Re: Stay In until the Minute Mark! - Crazy Cyclist!

I guess it true what they say; it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow.

Re: Yet another "new biker - what to buy thread" ..

The S40, albeit a 650 (single cylinder) is a physically very small motorcycle. I don't think it is suitable as a two up machine, unless you and the passenger are pretty tiny in stature.

Re: Question about my first service

Sounds like it's just an oil change based on the FAQ at http://www.motomia.com/MotomiaFAQ.htm Pay particular attention to this answer from the FAQ cited above (the emphasis on the last sentence is mine): When should I have the first service done? After travelling 300km. The first service is the most...

Re: Loudest HD model?

I'm a soon to be new rider *hopefully*. I agree with you that it will change with experience. I just have this image of H-D rider I saw a while back, his bike was loud, like it was ripping the road. Do you recommend any books to get started while I sit all of winter deciding which bike to purchase?...

Re: Loudest HD model?

Actually stock HD's roll out of the showroom as fairly quiet machines. It's aftermarket exhaust systems that create the LOUD you are probably thinking about. I can't really suggest any other bike, the criteria you've listed in your post isn't really related to what you will likely want in a motorcyc...

Re: Picked up a DL650...

Dl650 shares components with the sv but it's not the same motor. Wish mine rattled, it's so embarrassing how smooth and quiet the motor can be. My Harley friends say it sounds like a vacuum. Apparently if you follow this set up it will sound just like a Ducati. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KooABb...

Re: Picked up a DL650...

They aren't without their shortcomings however, chief among them being somewhat lackluster passing power at freeway speeds. It'll run all day at fairly high revs down I-5, but sometimes it would be nice to have a bit more available when you give the throttle a twist. That's what DL1000's are for! :...

Re: Picked up a DL650...

Thanks sapaul, yes I think they are very underestimated as well. This thing is more fun to ride than I thought, it needs revving to make it fun but with a 10,500 rpm redline it can be made to scream (well in a weed wacker kind of way, but still...) lol @indiGO - yes all my research points to this be...

Picked up a DL650...

I picked up this bike about a week or so ago, it's a 2010 DL650 (new to me had about 5k on it) so far it's been a great commuter and I love the idea of going (almost) anywhere on it. After I take care of a few nagging items it will be even better. I struggled between choosing the 650 or the 1000 but...

Re: Petcock Issues?

You can also put it on reserve while on a full tank, if it doesn't stall out then it's not clogged. Don't forget to take it off reserve at the end of your experiment, especially if it doesn't stall. :)

Re: Building a Shed for me and my Lady need advice

A couple of years ago I built a 10x10 shed, standing on decking blocks, 2x4 construction 16" centers, including roof trusses, plywood roof and shingled, two windows, double door, 2"x8" decking 12" centers for base, plywood floor, covered the exterior with Smart Panel, and trimmed it out with Pine. Re: Would you consider this useful?

I think it would be extremely useful... for cars that is, and instead of detecting vehicles in a car's blind spots instead activate the system to detect oncoming traffic ( and sensitive enough to detect motorcycles ) when a turn indicator is engaged.

Re: What kind of oil do I use!!?!

In addition to what Buzz said; Don't feel you have to stick with synthetic oil, you can switch between mineral and synthetic, even mix the two. I like synthetic, but I'm finding the price to be getting a little out of hand.
