Thanks for the explanations. Now that makes me wonder, is it always dependent on the style of the bike? For example, I'm looking for a cruiser in the 700 - 900cc range. Will all bikes in that category have forward controls or will some be standard?

I'm going to keep my eye on this poll. I'm betting that the winner of this one will be the 46-50 or the bracket just lower than that. Coming back to riding after a time aways seems to be a popular mid-life crisis choice.

If I had my choice they would be free But of course they are not but most of the mid size cruisers that I've been looking at are in the $6000-8000 range which seems to be a fair price.
