If the wires are hot from the alternator then your rectifier/regulator may be bad or something is loading the rectifier down. I never had the problem you are describing. Are you measuring 15 volts at the battery when the bike is at idle? Check all your ground wires not just the battery ground.

I have a 85 Goldwing, I have the same problem, I am going to cut out the connector and splice the wires, I would advise using heat shrink on the splices, thats my plan.

I would check all frame ground connections, also check connectors for corrosion. Try turning the key on and wiggle your wiring harness around.
I would find all of your frame grounds, then clean and tighten them.

When my pulse generators were bad, the bike would die when my temp gauge showed 4 bars (digital gauge). I have a 85 Goldwing, when I first got the bike the pulse generators were bad, this would cause the bike to die. It only happened when the bike was warming up. Your problem sounds system wide, I would check all ground connections not just on you battery.

Try asking for a trail bike first something off road to get some experience. Should get some more driving time under your belt before street riding.
