Re: buying used in a different state & getting a mechanic to

When I bought my bike last summer I told the seller that I didn't know enough about bikes to be comfotable with the purchase unless we wrote in a "not lying, no surprises" clause. He said the bike was in perfect shape, so I made a deal that I would buy it and have the (Harley) mechanic trailer it to...

Re: How long would you consider a typical ride?

I typically ride out 45 mins to an hour out from the house, grab a coffee and then ride home. Today I just finished the 4th day of about 400 miles per day and my butt is DONE. I'm chillin' in a BK cuz it's over 40deg with the humidex and I'm giving my butt and the heat a break. Fun times though - an...

Re: Aftermarket pipes illegal in Quebec ?!?!

It was on hwy 20 - so assuming SdQ ... The ticket say SdQ - and the "crime" reads:

Proprietaire dun vehicule non muni dun systeme dechappement conforme aux normes

To me that seems wicked loose - and something any officer could arbitrarily zine you with if you don't have full factory exhaust

Goy my bike all salty - any suggestions?

I took a few days to run up the coast - just wanted to see the ocean cause it'd been a while. This morning there was an insane fog. Geared up for rain and headed home. The fog was with me for most of the three hours to the ferry - and when I got back to my bike after the ferry, the bike was dry but ...

Aftermarket pipes illegal in Quebec ?!?!

So I decided I needed to clear my head so taking a solo road trip to Gaspe (from Ottawa). On day 4 after stops in montreal and quebec city, I'm enjoying a sunny ride across to Rimouski when I see cherries lit a few cars back. He catches up to me and files in ... I was following traffic so a bit conf...

Ship my bike to Europe, or rent one when I'm there?

hi folks, I'm planning a ~3 week road trip across Europe next summer - and the rentals are pretty steep (like 1500-3000 Euros depending on the bike), so I got wondering if I can ship my bike over there (and back) for less. I plan to have my bike for years and years, and it'd be pretty cool if it tou...

Helmet trying to fly off at higher speeds - what do I do..

I have a three quarter helmet (Scorpion with a flip down face shield) that I got (first helmet) last summer. I only had my M1 the whole time because of the drive test strike - so kept speeds lower. Got my bike out a couple of weeks ago, and I`ve been taking in on longer rides .... usually go out 40-...

thanks for all the good feedback. I've put ~650 miles on my bike since I bought it and want to get to 1000 before the end of the season (fast approaching in Ottawa) ... so I think I'll do a long trip out and back once to see how things work out. My inlaws have a cottage north of Peterborough - about...

dumb question? Is it bad for a bike to get rained on?

I rode to work today - pushing the 20% chance of rain, cause the winter's coming fast, and I want to get a few more rides in before storing the bike away. But it did rain after I got here - almost none, but I was getting a bit worried ... thinking the bike's all exposed. Then thought "don't be stupi...

How far can you ride in a day/week?

So a while ago, I told my buddy that if I ever bought a bike, I'd ride out to the west coast for a visit. I'm near Ottawa, Canada (North of Albany, NY) So, last night I plotted a fun course there ... 6,000 kms on the way there, 4500 on the way back (3700miles there, 2800 back). Could you ever ride 5...

... i'm better now ... odd coincidence. When i was showing off my new bike, and found out the battery was dead, I said to the guy I was showing that I'd like to know who's Fat Boy I kept parking beside, cause it's a killer ride too. He says "Oh that's Chris' bike. I carpool with him. He's been ridin...

ARGH - dead battery at work ... what do I do?

Hi folks, I just went out at lunch to show a friend my new bike (just got it a month ago) - and it won't start. None of the controls will turn on ... assuming that the battery died. I think I turned everything off as normal. The bike hasn't been sitting long at all (5 days between rides) and I ran 2...

How fast does it take to enter a speed wobble?

Hi, So I'm getting more and more comfortable riding, and have started taking my bike to and from work. I take it out of town first, circle around and come back - turning my 15 minutes commute into a full hour when it's possible - very fun. I go through stretches of 80km/h (50mph) zones, and usually ...

Hey dude, I hear you. Took the course a month ago and have since been trying to get up to speed on my bike. On the course, I was on a 200cc Kawasaki - and now I'm on a 1450 Harley - different beasts for sure. I was too bold in my first week and it resulted in me dropping the bike twice. Then I wisen...

I'm new too - and did this a lot at the start of the motorcycle course last month. The instructor kept telling me to squeeze and not grab the brakes. Then he showed me what he meant ... by squeezing, he meant pulling your fingers in, but not moving the hand at all, where grabbing is more a whole han...

i LOVE to ride ... and still have some questions

Hi folks, thanks again to all those that gave me advice on the first ride - still taking some of the pointers to heart. the scariest thing that anyone had said is that a lot of people buy a big bike then realize they hate riding. turns out I'm NOT one of those people. I rode to work today for the fi...

I was surprised too how great my Harley shifted compared to the learner bike. Though I rode it a tiny bit before the course - I never shifted gears. I stalled it a TON on my first real ride, but then I realized I was downshifting to SECOND gear, and coming off the line in the wrong gear. Oops. Still...

Couple of follow-on questions... I got my first ever bike a couple of weeks ago. I was riding 5-10 miles every day to build up some comfort level. Then after a week tried to do a u-turn on a country road. Ended up on my butt again with some scrapes on my bike. Arhggh!!!! Question 1: Obviously one we...

The long story might take forever once u got me going - I really had a great time ... But a couple of other highlights you might find funny.
