Dude, i've got the same model 360, and all I had to do when removing the carbs is diconnect the cables from the center round that runs the throttles, on the carb. I don't know how much you took apart, but I removed my air filters, and the tank, so I had more room to work in there.

of course a helmet is better, and folks are trying to save lives by mandating their usage. After all most crashes happen around 35mph, or in town when cars do not yeild the right away. Your body can survive the hit, and with a helmet your head can too. No one in their right mind would have rags on ...
